Woohoo my vote is winning and I've been asking for this since OOTPBB 05. I want you to know though Pure Sims Animation is crap. I finally broke down and played that demo and I don't know how people can praise that pos game. It was horrible compared to OOTPBB, but, then again I guess when you're a fan of the Dallas Cowboys it's hard to be a fan of the Redskins. OOTPBB has been the best sim I've ever played, it has role playing elements in it, you can have a family (or could before 07 I think) wife, kids and you could get fire for stupid reasons and then goto another team and come back and stomp your old team and laugh at them for firing you. Like I hope Torre gets to do vs the Yankees, he's one of the best managers in the game and to fire him just because the Yankees didn't make the World series for the last oh what 7 years? hehe well that was just crappy.

I really would like to see a Micro League type of animation back in the game. Doesn't have to be MVP type graphics, but, man if it had Micro League type graphics and VOICE color commentary like APBA with Al Michaels combined just imagine the immersive value of the game?

But, I'm tellin yah Pure SIm that was a joke for animation, you'd see the ball fly out clearly over the fence and it would be called an OUT. More times that a HR that's for darn sure. I think one of the funniest ones I saw it do was a Double to 3rd base. lol I kid you not that's what it said, ball was driven to 3rb base and it was a double in the text. hahaha No, I don't want that kind of animation that is not even believeable or plausible.

PureSim's animation can be made to work perfectly with the play by play text. You just have to know how to set each stadium up with the correct outcome points. Markus already uses the same type thing -- Flyball 7D, Groundball 6M, Line Drive 4MD, etc.

I'd like to second that. That would be much better than graphics.

I agree in the sense that OOTP should have the ability of putting clearer graphics and movement than MicroLeague.

Markus has stated he wants some graphical representation of plays eventually, so those who want text pbp only are in for some sadness

Well old fogeys have always been in for some sadness as CHANGE is always inevitable. I look forward to it and grasp it with open arms and I'm 52.

Seems like the vast majority want some animation. And, seems like Marcus is (rightly) listening to the majority of his customer base.

FM style is what I'd like to see. My perfect sports sim game is a merger between FM features and OOTP features (both a baseball version and a soccer version).

Could animation be one of the surprise features that Markus hinted about for OOTP 9?

I especially like the way you'd like an image that is generated using wall distance & height. Maybe foul ground too?

That would be awesome!

When I played FPS: Baseball Pro, I only used the bird eye view screen, just so that I could watch the ball and the fielders.

I think that would be a lot of programming, though, so maybe we could have it by OOTP 13. If it never makes it in, I'm fine with that too. I'm easy to please.

I loved FPS: Baseball Pro, and my eyes glaze over when I think of those graphics and this engine and realistic features. I don't need console type 3-D monster graphics, in fact, I'm fine as is, but man I did love playing FPS, and if THIS engine and realism could be added to those graphics??? AWESOME, IMHO.

Earl Weaver had a fantastic stadium editor that was pretty cool back in the day. It was a lot of fun to create and adjust the stadiums.

However I would hope that we would have some option to use our existing fields with perhaps the same drag and drop capabilities of where the fielders should go and where the landmarks should be (such as bases, fences, foul lines)

I know that I use some amazing fields that I have collected over the years and would hate to have to lose them.

Best case scenario would be to track down Teflon, and hire him as a sub contractor to do all the fields - he did amazing work.

I voted no, however...

I voted no because my fear always is that when better graphics are added, that my computer won't be able to run the program anymore, or it will slow down the processing to the point of annoyance. However, after seeing the proposal Marcus gave us, I wouldn't object to a simple 2D Football Manager type of system if it doesn't hog resources too greatly. I do tend to play out the games and I have to admit that it probably would improve the experience. But it's a fairly low priority for me personally.

Loved that. But the pre-OOTP baseball sim world was overall so unsatisfactory in retrospect

Over 75% for some kind of animation. No wonder Markus said that's the plan for OOTP10.

I'm sure that's the majority of OOTP users too.

Well, considering the animation haters probably voted a minimum of 5 times each..

Yeah, sure, it's no scientific study, but I think it's interesting nonetheless. With how loud some are for no animation I would have pegged it closer to 50/50.

While I wouldn't be too surprised if this ends up being a "be careful what you wish for", I do think it's time and I think it could take the game to the next level so I am looking forward to it.

No, but check out Markus' post in the 2 surprise features in OOTP 9! thread. It is post #147 on page 8.

He slipped in a nice little nugget for us.
