Bug fixing status for OOTP 9?
The recent newsletter did a good job of highlighting a number of the new features that will be included in OOTP 9. The feature list indeed sounds very promising and I'm sure a lot of us are looking forward to seeing how that turns out.
While the feature list is of course what sells the game for many people, I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that the list of bug fixes is at least of equal importance. This is an area that we've heard very little about (although this announcement on the FOF forums was welcome news). I'm the commissioner of a 24-player online league (26 counting the two co-owned teams). I myself have pre-ordered, but for the time being I've instructed my owners not to pre-order OOTP 9 until more details (in particular, details on bug fixes) are available. I'm very much looking forward to giving them the green light to do so! Being responsible for my league's spending at $25 per person and $625 total, though, you can understand why I'd like to have the clearest picture possible before proceeding. So I'd be very interested to hear status updates on some of the threads that have collected in the Logged Issues forum. These include (but are not limited to): OOTP crashing with an "Application Error" "Include new images" including ALL images I still say the finances are buggy Service Time Question repeated CTD in 2007 when shuffling personnel Free cuts? To be clear, this is not at all a situation where honest answers will spark an, "I'm not buying OOTP 9 unless [insert pet bug] gets fixed!!" reaction. I completely understand and accept that there is a limit on time and resources, and realistically not everything is going to be addressed (as much as I'm sure Markus would love to). I'm confident that those of us interested in this information are cognizant of these limitations and will be more than happy with a status update, whatever that update may be. I'm also confident that there's been solid work done squashing bugs, and as soon as I can confirm that I'll be very pleased to give the go ahead for my owners to pre-order away. ![]()

Hi Markus,
If you can't reproduce the "crash to desktop when trying to substitute for an injured pitcher" but that has plagued many a user, please let me know so I can send you my league file. It happens anytime I'm playing out a game and my pitcher gets hurt - when I go to drag a new pitcher into the "Current Pitcher" area on the sub screen, as soon as I let go of my mouse - BOOM - crash to desktop. I imagine you can recreate it by editing one of my pitchers' injury statuses, making him extremely susceptible to injury, and then pitching him in a game until he gets hurt. It literally crashes every time I try to replace an injured pitcher in-game. I'm waiting to pre-order OOTP9 until I get confirmation that this bug is no longer present - it's extremely frustrating as I have to save before every game I play out, and my pitchers are invincible since anytime they get injured, the game and the pitcher's injury gets wiped out by the crash. Kind of gives me an unrealistic advantage. Just let me know what I need to send and where I need to send it. Here's some links to threads showing other people with this (or a related) issue: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...er-injury.html http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...g-desktop.html http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ill-ootp8.html http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...er-injury.html http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...not-fixed.html http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...em-lineup.html http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...y-pitcher.html Note: There had previously been an issue with a pitcher (or other position player) getting hurt on the last play of the game, and so the game would be over but the lineup substitution screen would still come up anyway, waiting for you to drag in a sub for the injured player. But since the game was over, you couldn't put in a sub! I think in one of the patches, you added a "LEAVE GAME" button at the bottom of the substitution window once the game is over, and that worked around that particular issue. But it doesn't fix the crashing problem. Maybe if the "Sim to end of game" buttons were available at the bottom of the lineup subsitution screen, you could workaround this issue. That way, if the pitcher gets hurt and you know that subbing for him will cause the game to crash, you can choose instead to "Sim to end of game" and just let the computer AI finish your game for you. That way, the game completes, you avoid the crash, and your pitchers aren't invincible anymore! Obviously I'd love for the core bug to be fixed and substitutions to be a little cleaner in general, but something like that would at least get us around the issue if you can't figure out what's causing it. Thanks as always for all you do! Last edited by hefalumps : 04-30-2008 at 01:26 AM. |

Anyway, if you still want my league file to double check, let me know. I'd feel a lot better hearing "definitely fixed" than "seems to be fixed". ![]() Thanks! |

The promotion/demotion bug hasn't been as noticable to me as it has in past versions of OOTP, at least in my league. Although the other day I did see an AI team release a guy and then immediately re-sign him to a minor league contract. Although, that doesn't happen IRL too - guys getting non-tendered and signed to a minor league contract. So maybe that's not so much a bug after all.
![]() It's amazing how each person's leagues seem to manifest different "quirks" or bugs. I guess that's what happens when there are so many possible ways to play the game. That did make me think of one thing - in my historical league, there's a premium on position player free agents. Anytime a computer AI team releases a position player, some other AI team will immediately sign the player to a minor league contract before I even have a chance to make an offer. This means that the only way I can acquire position players during the season is to trade or make a waiver claim. It's kind of annoying - there should at least be a one-day wait period after the player is released before a player can sign with a new team. Meanwhile, our FA pool is filled with servicable pitchers who may spend the whole year unsigned. I had two underperforming MRs on my team, so I just sent them to the minors and signed two FA MRs waiting for jobs. I wonder if this is a phenomenon specific to my league or if a lot of others have this scenario as well. |

Yes. The Demo is always the full game with a time restriction. When you download the Demo and decide to purchase, you don't redownload. The Demo is activated to full status once you purchase and license.
