retired players

I wish that there was a way to delete all of the retired players from the database. After about 75 years of simming, saving and load times get a lot slower, because of the thousands of players that are saved. I just like to sim quickly and see which teams win the championships.

If there is a way to delete the old players from the database, please let me know. I almost never look at their stats anyways. I just wish that all that I could save is the champions page in the league history.

Not really, no. There is no way to mass select them in order to delete them in one transaction. You can delete them individually, however, and what I have done in the past is to sort the list for those who had under 10 innings pitched or less than 50 at-bats, say. Right-click the name and select DELETE Player.

It used to be, IIRC, that deleting a player would alter team records but I don't think that is the case anymore.

Problem is, manual deletion is extremely time-consuming if you let it go for a number of years before trimming the list down. I will call your attention to the existence of a retired.dat file in the data folder, but I will not speculate what might happen if you deleted that . . .

Oh heck, it's only a test league. Here goes . . .

OK. Based on a very small test, when you manually delete a player the team records are unaffected; the deleted player and his stats still appear. However, if you delete retired.dat, all the retired players are gone but so are their names and numbers from team records. (BTW, when new players retire, the game creates another retired.dat file).

So, you do not want to delete retired.dat unless you don't care about team and league historical statistics. A bit drastic a solution, I would say.

I can recommend, however, setting the Retiring Players Option to "Delete Those Who Never Reached Majors" if all you look at are the major league statistics. This keeps the number of retired players down automatically. It may make minor league records look funny, however.

Back up your league before experimenting like this. My test league runs OK but obviously the stats, if I cared about them, are permanently compromised by my deleting the retired.dat file.

Well, my league doesn't even have a minor league, so the last option wouldn't make a difference. But as I said, I don't care about the players. I just want to sim as many seasons as I can and see which teams win the most.

I'll form my own test league and see what happens. That's the best thing to do.
