OOTP 8 saving & text files question

Ok, so I've got a fictional MLB going that I started in 1901, I have minor leagues that I've done by hand, etc. etc.

At the end of the 1998 season, somewhere during the save, the game crashed.
I usually have it save at the end of the year, and it's worked for 97 seasons.

Reload the game, it's 1-1-98. The season is lost. Fine, I can handle that. I look at the champions, it shows the 1998 winning team, as well as who played in the series.

In order to keep from this screwing up, anyone happen to know what all files I'm going to have to edit to delete any trace of this crashed 1998 season?
(It doesn't seem like the players saved, as my Babe Ruth type character doesn't record hitting his 800th home run in his history or stats.)

Did you keep a backup? If not, you are about to learn why you should have.

A backup? Well that's just plain silly. Of course I didn't have a backup! Then I wouldn't be able to come in here and ask such silly questions!

Seriously.

should be some way to fix it anyways

Well, here's some damn weirdness.

Loaded it up this morning, when I posted this, and it was 1-1-98.

Just now got around to loading it to see about working on it....

it's 11-14-98, everything is back to normal. Makes zero sense.

Damned if I know.

So, still, valid question in case it happens to anyone else.
