Does your online league use scouts?

Just trying to get an idea of which online leagues are using what features. Thanks in advance for participating in the poll!

PEBA plays with scouts turned on. My understanding is that the main reason for turning scouts off in online leagues is the bloat it adds to the league file size, and that definitely is a valid concern (our scouting.dat file alone is 32 MB uncompressed). Still, I'd miss scouts too much to consider turning them off. I really enjoy the added obfuscation it adds, not knowing for sure what a player can be. The owners seem to enjoy the added mystery as well.

So one vote for scouts with the qualification that you should poll your leaguemates and confirms that the majority of them have broadband connections. If not, I'd regretfully do without.

Raidergoo's great thread on scouting, but with a section on drafting where much of it would also be helpful for those in leagues with scouting off.

This was linked in the other thread, but it's more appropriate here.

Interactive Online League Directory - find or advertise a league today! (now OOTP9 compatible, thanks for the space jazzrack!)
Canadian Baseball League - a recent OOTP9 convert, but running steadily since April 2002
SGCBL - a Lord of the Rings themed league with a very friendly membership and a commish constantly looking to improve the smallest of things

DDB uses scouts.
The concept is excellent.
It greatly increases enjoyment of the game.

That said, the absolutely abominable hiring/firing procedure for scouts (and coaches/managers/doctors) makes it a trial to use successfully on an on-line league.

The proposed new implementation in OOTP9 has promise. It also has potential limitations. If the hiring technique is improved as promised, that will be a big plus. On the other hand, simplifying assignments by having everything pre-arranged by a pre-season determination of a scouting budget may just reduce the control that is the best part of the current system. I want to be able to send a scout to specific countries at specific times, hitting countries being ignored or under-utilized by other teams in the league. I want to apply my best scouts to the draft class while keeping others doing other tasks. It sounds like the new system (as yet undescribed in any detail) will not allow this. I think the proposed plan has promise but also may have limitations.

We have a Historical League dating back to 1960(now at 1984) and I just HATE "name recognition" as a scouting method. We use both scouts and coaches to throw plenty of uncertainty into the assessment of players.
