The Greatest Games of Your League

I was recently playing out a particularly exciting game in which the home team was hosting the team they were two games behind in the standings with three games to go in the season. There were a lot of lead changes with both teams staging late-inning rallies so it got me wondering. Have any of you had some games that you have kept the boxes and game logs(maybe even written a recap) for because they were simply great games that you wanted to always remember? If so, can you share them with a little background on what made them great games? Did the game feature star performances, great catches, clutch hits or Buckner-esque fielding blunders?

Funny that you ask: We were just reminiscing over our favorite games from our last season. The consensus pick for most exciting game was a thriller between the Omaha Cyclones and the Canton Longshoremen. A 3-3 game heading into the 8th, Canton scored four times in the top of the frame to seemingly put things out of reach. Omaha answered right back with four in the bottom half to tie the game and send it to extras. Again Canton seemed to have iced it with two in the top of the 10th, and again Omaha answered by posting the same number in their portion of the inning. Canton wasted a brilliant opportunity in the 15th, stranding 3B David Bell (who had entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 10th) after a lead-off triple.

If you want to see how it finished, have a look at the box score. For a much more colorful account of how things went down, check out the recap for the game: Cyclones and Longshoremen Engage in Nail-Biter. An enjoyable read, and a pretty fantastic game as well.

The clinching Game 5 of our recently completed Planetary Extreme Championship (scroll down for the box score and recap) was a pretty thrilling affair as well. An amazing, game-saving catch was the highlight here. A bunch of us were watching through Yugma (thanks for the tip, Fidel!) as the game was played out... when that catch was made everyone just went nuts. Great fun!

One of the best I remember was game 7 of the inaugural championship series of one of my smaller leagues. After slugfests in the first 6 games, both teams sent their aces to the mound in game 7, and the 2 pitchers did not disappoint, as the game went to the bottom of the 10th tied at 0. After a leadoff double, sacrifice bunt and a strikeout, the home team had a runner at third with 2 outs, and won the game and the championship on a 2 out bunt single, 1-0.

Perhaps this isn't the best place to ask this, but how can I "watch" the games from PEBA if im not actually doing the simming?

In my neverending quest to find things that add to the enjoyment of OOTP, especially online leagues, I have found several ways to broadcast games. Yugma is one that I can finally say is the best. PEBA is one of the first to use it for OOTP reguarly but I have done some limited number of live games with my league Asahi2. Lot's of fun!

Only games that are broadcast through Yugma can be watched, and those will likely be only the big ones (e.g. the All-Star Game and the championship series). But I highly recommend Yugma to all online commissioners. It's a great way to spice up your sim schedule.

When we did our first broadcast (Game 1 of the Planetary Extreme Championship), only 3 members showed up. By the time we reached the last game of the series word had spread throughout the league about how cool the broadcast system was, and we had an almost full house (you can have up to 10 people watching with the free account). It really makes the games that much more visceral!
