Did you notice if any of them made it in the majors?

Player Report for #38 Lindsay Long

Well, he is a touch less extreme than the one this thread started about.

Thanks everyone.

I signed him as a FA when his talents were a 6 in contact and 1's across the board. He's gotten a few nice bump ups along the way.

I'm not excatly hurting in the OF right now with two potential Hall of Famers. I did a LF by committee last year as well, and they did fine.

I tend to hang on to folks and try and let them develop. I think I'll give him a whirl in Spring Training and see how it does with Pinch hitting. THen maybe trade him/hope for another bump.

Mr. Smart is 21. I would have no problem holding on to him. He's got about four seasons where his likelihood of a talent increase is pretty decent.

Realize that he's putting these numbers up in AAA. I think at least 4 guys in the PCL last season registered BABIP of over .400. One guy put up a .395 BABIP with a very low walk rate. So some of these guys can and should be able to exist.

The issue of to many 711 type players is not really with the "7" part, but with the fact that player creation is not adequately correlated in many of the other areas. This has always been the case with OOTP. The player's contact rating is a amalgam of BABIP, Power and AvoidK. Since BABIP is going to start out close to peak, if a guy has low Power and AvoidK potentials, he'll start his career at nearly peak Contact.

My concern is that he is 21 playing at AAA and posting the numbers average wise that he is. IMO once a player reaches that point in the minors where they are dominating a league like he is the skill set erodes quickly if they are not moved up.

IMO he is not a guy I want on my roster as he is extremely one demensional.

That is why I am saying trade him now. Yes he could go up, but what if he goes down???? At least now you can get someone to trade you a more rounded player who "should" have a better chance of not being a flameout.

I agree completely. Deal him while his value is high. Barring a bunch of talent increases, he really has no where to go but down at this point.

i find it hard to beleive he has much value on the trade market. Personally, I'd have him ride my bench in the majors for awhile -- give him a chance to show how reliably he can come in, late innings, and poke a single through the infield.

How many of those players has almost no power to go along with the extremely high BABIP and complete lack of strike zone judgment?

Here's the list of guys (who qualified for the batting list) with BABIP > .370 in the PCL in just 2007.

Code:
Name Team POS AB HR BB SO BABIP
Brian Myrow	POR	1B	347	13	56	74	0.423
Geovany Soto	IOW	C	385	26	53	94	0.415
Jason Botts	OKL	OF	369	13	81	102	0.413
Delwyn Young	LVG	OF	490	17	38	105	0.402
Terry Evans	SLC	OF	475	15	26	119	0.395
Danny Klassen	ROU	SS	379	8	31	104	0.385
Omar Quintanill	CSP	2B	348	3	31	65	0.385
Wilson Valdez	LVG	SS	361	4	43	34	0.371
Adam Jones	TAC	CF	420	25	36	106	0.370
Danny Klassen looks like the closest to that kind of player with just a touch of power. Though, Omar Quintanilla seems close, too.

I took the stats of every minor league player who qualified in 2007, and picked all players who registered a .370 BABIP or better. Then I calculated those player's bb-rate, and selected the ten worst.

Code:
Name Team AB HR BB SO BABIP	BB-Rate
Daniel Carte	MOD	427	14	13	130	0.378	0.030
Adrian, Ortiz	IDF	264	0	9	36	0.377	0.033
Travis Mitchell	JCY	191	1	8	48	0.387	0.040
Gregory Golson	CLE	418	12	21	124	0.379	0.048
Terry Evans	SLC	475	15	26	119	0.396	0.052
Christ Davis	BAK	386	24	22	123	0.381	0.054
Wilkin Ramirez	ERI	142	8	9	44	0.411	0.060
Salvador Sanch	GRF	283	7	18	59	0.415	0.060
Justin Byler	STC	263	8	17	68	0.396	0.061
Jaime, Pedroza	OGD	211	8	14	44	0.428	0.062
Ortiz and Mitchell are particularlly notworthy as they have no power and don't walk, but register pretty remarkable BABIP numbers. Note that the average BB-Rate in most minor leagues tends to run at about .095 or so.
