When I left click on a player, sometimes a message appears, then disappears so quickly I don't get the chance to read it. Is there any way to either slow the message display down or find this message anywhere so I can read it?

I notice this sometimes when I click on a team's home page or on the league schedule. I even see a message briefly when I move from one player to the next in the roster. What I think causes the delay is the game generating a FaceGen player picture and this only occurs if you have not seen the player before.

The message is supposed to entertain you while you wait, but in this case the wait is so brief that the message is only up there a second or so. To answer your question, no, there is no way to slow this down so you can read the message.

However, that's a good thing. The less you see of these messages, the faster your computer is running the game. Believe me, as your league and its history get larger and longer, you will have adequate opportunities to read the messages at leisure. Maybe not so much while generating FaceGen pictures, but when advancing the date and at other times.

If you are curious and cannot wait, you can open the hints.txt file in your data\help folder; that's where the messages come from. You can add more interesting blurbs to that file if you care to; I found a ton of them at Baseball Almanac.

Or you can open up hints.txt with Notepad, select and then delete all of the test, save the now-empty file, and never have to see those messages again.

I did that originally, then I decided to follow another user's idea - I elimated all of the hints/quotes from hints.txt.

Now I no longer have those messages popping up during my game. It really is nice that way. I liked the quotes, but after awhile you know them all. Not having a window pop up and then disappear is quite nice.

>So they are only hints.. Thank you 1998 Yankees, Wolf & Sitting Duck (I'll keep this in mind for 9 when I get it)
I'd like to see a [CONTINUE] button on the window that appears when simming a week, month, year unless there's another way I can look at it. Also would like to be able to open it in an external browser. Please, oh please OOTP consider adding this.
By the way. I'm using the OOTP8 demo and pre-ordered 9 a couple of weeks ago. I love this game (even though I've seen some oddball things that don't effect the game play) and I think my plans of buying BM9 have been cancelled (even though I really do love the PbP pitching).
Another thing that could be improved is the HELP system. There's a high learning curve (especially if every option is to be used) to this game. I think more people who play games similar to High Heat would move to and stay with OOTP if the help system used a search index. Help items should also include information from the MLB rule book (console and HH type users never had to be concerned with this). Some could become overwhelmed and shelf the game without ever returning.
