Sad End to Career
OK, he didn't die, and he was in obvious decline, but I was pulling for him to retire healthy. Probably the best all round player I've had in any version of the game. Despite a 21 year career he was injury prone. I guess it was inevitable that he would get the big one.
Ricardo Garcia; some career highlights. 9 time WS Champ 9 time MVP 9 time Batting Champ Batted 0.402 in 2057 58 post season HR

The thread title immediately made me think of the historical league I'm running.
I started in 1969 playing as the Royals. We've been very successful and now in 1978 we've clinched a playoff berth in hopes of winning our sixth straight title. I acquired Rick Reuschel after the 1975 season by trading Ken Griffey and JR Richard to the Cubbies. He's been great for us and in '78 he had 20 wins by the end of August. I sent him out in a meaningless September game to try to pad his win total. He was able to pick up win #21 on the year. Unfortunately... ![]() There goes my #2 starter. ![]() On the upside, I suddenly have a lots of budget room. ![]() |

see, this is why ive disabled CEI's. when have you ever seen an instance an injury end a players career the day the injury happens? ending a season, sure. a career? no way. most players are competitive enough to try whatever methods are available to attempt to play again, even if they miss a few years. tony saunders, who broke his arm twice while pitching, took a while to call it a night. the player may suffer crippling ratings hits that perhaps would render him able to compete at a AA level or whatever, but not retire instantly. i ended up altering the injury file to remove all CEI's (except for fractured skull, that seems a bit plausible as a CEI somehow) and made a few more injuries a lot lengthier. sorry to 'jack the thread ![]()

20, he played MLB first in 2043 and he would be 41 in a couple of months.
