I guess I still don't understand financials...
I'm nearing the end of a season and I'm looking to pick up a possible #5 starter for cheap.
![]() I have nearly $7,000,000 in budget space and the owner refuses to accept a $90,000 contract? I'm playing with "entire revenue available". Is it because of all the arbitration eligable guys I have next year? ![]() Even if it's taking next year's arbitration into account why couldn't I sign this guy for a one year contract (one-month really since it's September)? ![]() |

Yeah, I've run into this before too. And if you pull up one of your current players and attempt to sign him to an extension, it will say in that box "You have $xxxxx available for contract extensions next season." If this number is below $90,000 in your case, you'll find you can't sign a new FA THIS year. I've seen this numerous times. My current financials say I've got $506,000 for contracts this year (I'm playing using 1960's like financials) but when I try to sign an extension it says I have $140,000 for contract extensions next year. So, when I try to sign a FA, even to a 1 year deal, it won't approve anything over the $140,000, NOT the $506,000. I think this depends on the FA though. If the FA has over 6 years ML experience (and thus will become a FA after the one year deal) I THINK (not sure) it will let you sign him based on THIS YEAR's available funds. Others with more experience may explain better.
EDIT: BTW, nice roster. Nolan Ryan throwing to Thurman Munson, followed by Frank Tanana, and a lineup with George Brett, Greg Luzinski, Dave Winfield, and Robin Yount. WOW, you sure you're not the Yankees?? Last edited by OldFatGuy : 05-17-2008 at 01:54 PM. |

Don't feel alone in your occasional confusion. If the game ever includes additional roles and personnel, a GM Assistant, or in this case an accountant
, would be a welcome addition. Then I could get those occasional emails that preclude me having to come to terms with anything. It could just say, "Listen, if you're going to keep spending like this, you better hope you're investing in the right players because you won't have much left in the way of cash flow and your farm system is hurting."

I don't profess to know how OOTP is programmed to deal with financial specifics like this, but I wonder if the owner has deemed that the player is not worth signing, especially in relation to how many players you already have under major league contracts and how many are eligible for arbitration and/or free agency.
