trade problem - major issue
Someone needs to look into the trading problems. I was starting a historical league of 2002. Trading was set to "favor veterans", figuring most teams trade veterans for prospects. I usually use KC, but this time I added two expansion teams to the AL which one of them I controlled. There was a trade between KC and another team. KC traded Sweeney(28 yrs old) (about a 4 star player) for outfielder Timo Perez NYM, who was a two 1/2 star player (26 yrs old). I can understand dumping for risk of losing him for nothing, but he still had four years left on his contract and it happened in January. They were well below their expenses too. Now usually I don't look into trades that closely, but this caught my eye right away. Now it makes me wonder how this happened, and how often it happens. I like trading away veterans for prospects, but I never get anything this good.

Is your scouting accurate? Sometimes the game lets me make a trade that seems too good to be true - and in the end - it WAS too good to be true. My scouts had old reports or something and overvalued what I was getting back.
Try scouting both players with some different scouts and the trade may look a little better |

this may be related to a recent problem/bug that was just addressed by markus. the original thread was on the FOFC board and someone linked it here, but i havent searched for it yet. it had to do with how the AI was evaluating players, specifically with the distribution of percentages of player ratings/this year/last year/2 yrs ago (found in your global settings page). essentially it was not following the settings properly and causing the AI to value players incorrectly. its supposed to be addressed for OOTP9. but im not sure if thats yr issue or not though...

Actually I don't use scouting. I hate it since they used this "new" system of how they are used. I like the "old" way where your one scout is accurate based on his skill. I know it isn't as "real", but the scouting is just right. I believe ootp 5 was the last year it was used, probably before they went to that Sega company (sports interactive). So, its just based off of SISA scouting until they change the scouting method. Back to the trade, you could also look at their stats and the people involved in the trade that seem obvious to me, even before I looked at their rating or stars. I was just checking and am more aware of trades made by computer opponents. I have since lowered trading actively to "low" and treat veterans and prospects as "equals". Thanks for replying. Just to note, I have written in before about changing the scouting or at least have a choice between the two methods. I believe Markus said he may have a choice of how the scouting is going to be used, but a decision hadn't been made at that time. So I'm hoping thats going to be the case.
