Couple of Questions before pre-ordering

I've been playing Puresim the last couple of years and the last time I even considered OOTP was version 6.0 I think. Game looks fantastic as I've been playing with the version 8 demo. Some questions before I plop down the $$$...

1. Expansion drafts -- do the same players get drafted no matter what or do teams protect players, watch the draft get conducted, etc?

2. Does inflation occur throughout the history of a league?

3. Does the game come with a written manual or do you have to print out the help file?

1) I assume you mean historically, for expansion drafts. Individual teams will protect whatever players they think are best - not the ones that were protected in real-life.

2) Inflation does not occur. However, with historic leagues you can select the option to use real-life financials, so guys will make in 1950 in your league pretty much what they made in the real 1950.

3) Download only, so you'd have to print it.

1936, 1937, 1939. 1940 American League Champions (4/10).
1936, 1937 World Series victors (2/4).
138-104, .570% vs. the New York Yankees.

Thanks...so if I start in 1950 and play through 2000, the salaries, etc. will always be in 1950s dollars?

No. The dollar amount displayed will change from year to year. Each year, there is a financial coefficient that acts as a multiplier to change the worth of the dollar.

So 1950 will be 1950 dollars, 1956 will be 1956 dollars, 1999 will be 1999 dollars...

But if you keep that function off, or are playing a league that goes into the future, there won't be inflation. Sorry, I could have made myself more clear.

And really, as far as the game itself, you won't find a better baseball simulator on the planet. Seriously.

I'm definitely starting to believe this game is unbelievable. It seems the only things that people don't like about it are such minor quibbles compared to many other games out there. I've really enjoyed BM simply because it's quick. Not really good realism but I've found it to be fun. Puresim was definitely a step up and has been fun but the feel of it has never been right. This game, having played a full season now, really seems to have just about everything you could possibly think of.

The only problem is that I have stinking Vista and can't figure how to get player pictures to work.

Player names need to have the underscore rather than a space in between first and last. For guys with names like A.J. Burnett, simply A.J._Burnett works too.

Thanks...I figured out how to use this. Is there any chance I can change the directory it looks for the pictures in? Can I set it up to look for the pictures in my Strat-O-Matic baseball players photo folder.

I don't think so. You probably be best served by selecting all, then copying and then pasting. It's a bit of duplication.

OOTP has gotten so good, in some areas, that it allows one to dream of a power and flexibility that it doesn't quite have, but one feels it should.
