Multinational explained?

So, I need further clarification on the multinational aspect of OOTP 9. Does this mean that one league can be set up with teams from different countries and players only from that specific country can play on the team?

No, it means that you can have teams from several countries in a league, and that players created for that league represent the proper nationality settings. For example, you have 8 Teams from the USA and 2 from Japan, and set the foreigner % to 0, then the game will create 80% Americans and 20% Japanese players for the draft.

Ah, Ok, thanks.

How about this teaser: What if the league is based in Canada, but there are 8 teams US and 2 in Japan. With the foreigner percentage set to 0, would it still be 80% American and 20% Japanese? Or would it be 9% Canadian, 73% American, and 18% Japanese?

Thats pretty f'in sweet. I thought I would have to manuever a bit to get my South American baseball league (with multiple teams in many countries) to work properly, but it appears as if it will work without any type of real work.

This feature is just gonna rise OOTP to an entire different level for me. I've already pinned the cities I'll be using, the mascots, the colors and calculated flying distances between cities (for whatever reason) - I'm thinking about implementing a foreign player max for teams, though this seems somewhat unfair for my Paraguay and Uruguay teams when in competition with Brazilian and Columbian teams, but still something to think about, especially considering I no longer have to think of a way to tweak it so 90% of the players in the league come from South America. YIPPIE!

I don't remember this from the short feature list that was posted a while back... Did I just miss it, or has there been new info released somewhere?

Non-American spellings are now warning-worthy?

Can each team then be set to 0% (or a low figure) foreigners and prevented from (or limited in) drafting the other nationalities within the group? Or is the American/Japanese combination effectively one national group, for purposes of drafting in this league?

I don't think it will work that way as teams don't have a foreigner percentage and the foreigner limits per league are based on the league's nationality.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like. Basically the example mentioned by Markus would create a American/Japanese League where all players would be American or Japanese and this would essentially be a nationatility.

Teams do have their own individual nationalities, independent of league nationality. Markus is saying the league's draft pool is to be generated on the basis of the combined nationalities of all teams within the league. The question is, will a foreigner limitation then be applied to each team based on that particular team's nationality, or on the combined nationality grouping of the league.

It would appear you could achieve this effect by manually controlling the inaugural picks for each team, drafting Japenese players for the Japanese teams, etc... However, even after the course of the first season, I think you'd find that due to various transactions, a melding of the teams would quickly ensue.

Two thoughts to this then: (Automated every year once set pretty, pretty please).

1. Can you still control the skill level of different countries? IE in the above scenario, could 80% of players be US at MLB level, and 20% Japanese at a slightly lower level.

2. Can you control teams (through restrictions or preferences) to 'home-grown' players? This would be fantastic for fictional leagues up to the 1950s etc.

I don't believe so and I don't believe so. I have a suggestion lined up for OOTP10 that could make that much more do-able.
