Markus-PH Problem Found, I think.
In my other thread Syd Thrift posted a theory about the AI NOT pinch-hitting in obvious situations because they perhaps didn't have enough pitchers. So, I've been keeping my eye out (I play out all of my games) and sure enough, I just played a game in July with a lead in the 9th, and the opponent's pitcher came up and he didn't pinch hit. So, I looked under the "Oakland Athletics Substitutions" tab, AND SYD THRIFT WAS RIGHT. The AI didn't pinch hit because it had no other RELIEVERS available, as it only had 8 pitchers on its roster. (This is a 1901 game with 4 man rotations).
However, as I mentioned in the other thread, because I didn't want to actually play the dead-ball era, I just wanted to start in 1901, I had set all player creation and league total modifiers to 1's, which mimics modern day settings. So, I think the fact that the start year was 1901 had the AI build its roster believing it was the dead-ball era (thus only 8 pitchers on the roster) BUT the amount of offense indicated more uses of relievers, led to situations where in the ninth inning the pitcher would hit because there were no other relievers left. (I can't confirm that on the other game logs because rosters may have changed, but I did confirm that most of the AI rosters had no more than 9 pitchers on its roster) Anyways, I think that this is really just the AI getting confused between two era's, not malfunctioning. Or at least I think that may be it. What I plan to do is start over, but this time start at 2001, with modern day player creation modifiers and league total modifiers. This will probably result in the AI building its rosters accordingly, and thus the problem WON'T occur. I only picked a start date of 1901 because I wanted the first year to be a 1, I could just as easily pick 2001. However, I still don't think this explains moving drafted players immediately into the starting lineup. At least I don't see how it does. I could start the 2001 game up and see if it happens in that one. |

The question over the pinch hitter because of too few pitchers isn't your creation and total modifiers, but what your strategy settings were at. 8 pitchers in 1901 strategy terms is about right.

Very rare relievers and 4-man rotations will cause this. Modern settings are Very Often relievers and 5-man rotations.

Yeah, I agree that OOTP has been a bit to acidic.
