Is it a problem that I have not gotten an email newsletter about OOTP9? I read somewhere that you get the link to download your game in email and I do not want to be left out. If I have no problems then sorry for this post, but I really don't want to miss out...If you know what I mean....Thank you.....

a. aWesome. All the auto-calcing of tertiary league totals like double plays and wild pitches is really going to make this game super-realistic for dead ball era leagues without having to do a lot of setup.
b. Sadly, I think that spells the end of the Thriftlon Reports, at least version 1. I'd done so many calculations and stood by so many of them year after year that I don't know how to back out of that and let the game figure things out on its own. Still, I think that'll end up being a minor downside to some major upsides. Wow. Already I started the "Argh" thread. Now I am REALLY in suspense for the release of this. |

You must have noticed this in v.8 which I don't own. In OOTP7 you get a lot of 'booted' grounders by infielders and outfielders, as well as mucho 'dropped flys'. Which defies credulity. The vast majority of OF errors, for example, are due to errant throws and they tend to result in the extra base- or worse.

I know in OOTP8, I've had plenty of pitchers with GB% higher than 50% give up 30-40 HR per year consistently. Just like you made the hitter's contact rating relate to Avoid K's, Power and BABIP (brilliant), I think the pitcher's movement rating should directly relate to GB% (along with perhaps the type of pitches and the Stuff rating). Here are some great reads about how GB%/FB% relate to home runs allowed: Baseball Analysis, Graphs, Stats | Fan Graphs Research - Pitchers, Home Runs, & Fly Balls Evaluating Pitcher Talent Don't mean to nit-pick here, but I play the game for the amazing statistical engine and I think that the pitching is the only thing that needs a bit of tweaking to perfect this engine! I was hoping that this was going to be a major focus for OOTP9 and hope that you can take a look at it for future updates/versions. Thanks for all the hard work! Groundball% is not the main indicator of HR allowed, movement is. A player's GB% could be in the 80s, but if his movement is low, he's still going to give up a ton of homers.
GB% does have an effect, however. Given equal movement ratings, the guy with the lower GB% will give up more homeruns. |
