Widescreen & slow load times?

Has anybody else seen this happen? I just got a 22" widescreen, and changed the game resolution to ... and the game just takes forever to start up.

Once the game's loaded, it's fine...it's just the initial splash screen.

Now, let me also say that I'm using WINE to run OOTP8 in Ubuntu, so that may be the problem right there.

Define forever? Mine doesn't load fast, but I don't think it's any worse than any other resolution. I'm playing 1680x1050 windowed on a 22" screen as well. It probably takes around 20-30 seconds to load to the main menu for me. Then another 20-30 when I click continue.
Obviously, computer speed would also play a big part in the loading speeds.

Well, "forever" is upwards of 3 minutes in widescreen, as opposed to 1 or so when running at 1152x864. In both cases, I'm running windowed. It's by no means a fast PC (1.3ghz AMD Athlon w/1.5gb RAM), but the widescreen start time is noticeably slower.

I also have a 22" widescreen and don't have any issues with the game loading.

I'm running dual monitors, with ootp windowed at 1680x1050 on my 22" widescreen, and my load time is 7 seconds to the opening screen and another 7 seconds loading the league. Not only would computer speed play a big role in opening speed, but also the size of your universe/league. A standard size league for me opens in 7 seconds. A giant universe I am playing, with about 608 teams and over 23,000 active players takes a little over a minute, even with a fast comp like mine. Screen resolution will make a difference in speed, but it shouldn't make that much of a difference.

Of course, a brand new computer, Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.66 GHz, 4Gb of ram helps.

It's still kind of strange that wide screen would take 3x as long to load for the same league. Maybe it's a resolution issue. Or video issue. Are your video drivers up-to-date.

The drivers actually aren't up-to-date, but the current nVidia drivers for Linux wreaked all kinds of havoc with the graphics.

I'm pretty sure that this is a Linux/WINE issue, but I was just curious if anybody else had seen it happen...not that I really expected anybody else to have seen it.

I have a 24" monitor with resolution set at 1900 x 1200. Load times do not take any longer than when I was playing OOTP on a 19" monitor with resolution set at 1600 x 1200.
