Broadcast screen vs. Webcast screen

When it comes to playing out games, I much prefer the broadcast screen over the webcast screen. That being said, I play out all my games using webcast. Why, I hate that delay that exists when you use broadcast. It simply drives me nuts.

Has this been fixed in the new version? Silly how something so minor can get under your skin.

Is this on mac? I use a PC and I don't have any delays using the broadcast screen in v2007. With v2006 I did have delay issues with early builds that the first or second patch fixed.

Maybe you'll want to provide system information so OOTP developments can determine if this is a widespread problem or perhaps something to do with your particular setup.

I know it took me a long time to get used to the delay between each batter when playing out games in OOTP8.

In OOTP6.5 there was no delay between batters - when one play ended it was instantly ready for the next. Ever since the move to the new engine there's been a slight but annoying delay after the play-by-play is done but before the next batter is ready.

I've accepted it as a limitation of the engine.

I'm running a AMD Athlon 64 4200+, 2 GB of RAM.

I've never had a problem with the broadcast screen, and I always play out my games using that method. As Sweed suggested, it could be a problem with your system. Do you have an unusually low amount of RAM or an outdated graphics card or something?

Dell P-4, 2.6 GHz, 2 GIG RAM system and mine has a delay after every at-bat. But this is the first version I've ever fun, so I guess I never knew any better. Now I'm gonna try a few games on the webcast screen to see the difference. After going through the trouble of downloading and assigning all logos and unis, I rather enoy seeing them on the broadcast screen. But, to be fair, the "delay" just isn't a show stopper for me, as I said I just never knew better.

That is what can be so strange about pc gaming. My system, similar to yours, that has no delays..

current system
amd 64 3500+
2 gig ram
bfg 8500gt card

system before upgrading ram and graphics (also had no delays)
1 gig ram
onboard nvidia geforce 6100 graphics

I don't do a lot of multitasking when playing ootp but I do have my Norton running and am also on and off the net while playing.

Anyone know if there is a link about this in tech support? I did a search before posting here using a couple of terms but didn't come up with anything.

Yep, I just played a game on webcast, and you can tell a difference. But really, at least on my machine, it is a small difference. It's all good to me, since I never knew any better. But I do see the OP's point, there is a difference. My machine is pretty old, hope this doesn't mean OOTP 9 is going to be more of a problem. Hate to have to spend a couple of grand for a new computer to play a $25 game.
(I've been known for such madness in the past, after all)

I've noticed the pause but I never thought twice about it.

Yeah, I can see that. Plus my pause might not be as bad as yours because I'm running a league with no minors (just reserve rosters) as I'm still a real NOOB to OOTP. Before I jump in with all the bells and whistles I want to get a better feel. This is another reason why I'm worried about OOTP 9, as by then I hope to add some minors and maybe even feeder leagues (That's one feature that really, really intrigues me), and I'm really hoping I don't have to buy a whole new puter just to run this $25 game.

I am looking at a new laptop though. I've never owned one of those, and I'm going to get one soon so I can play away from home. Thing is, everywhere I've looked all the laptops come with Vista, and I REALLY don't want Vista. If I find one though, maybe that'll be good to run OOTP 9. I dunno, been worried about running OOTP9 as my desktop is almost 6 years old, purchase June 2002 from Dell.

Have you tried different setups (smaller leagues, minors, etc.) to see if the pause is less annoying???

Mine has the pause as well. Plus the pbp script catches and delays during each play. I have learned to live with it, though.

You have a PC and dont have ANY anti-virus software? Thats brave and hard to believe. Whens the last time you got a virus? Do you browse frequently and/or download files?

Just curious because that sounds pretty amazing to me if you dont get any vriuses.

I hope he knows that even if his computer doesn't show symptoms of having a virus, it can still spread them . . . oh wait, I'm thinking of that herpes commercial.

No, not brave, STU (bet you thought I'd say stupid, and I may well be but the word I was thinking of) STUBBORN. I'm well aware of my risks. And I did exaggerate when I said never had it. When I bought this PC in June 2002 it came with virus protection software (McAfee, I think???). Anyway, I ran it for awhile, but as this is my personal PC and used almost exclusively for gaming, I quickly learned anti-virus software interferes with almost ALL games.

Plus, the stubbornness comes from my FIRM belief that paying for anti-virus software is an awful lot like paying for protection from the mob, if you get my drift. And I'm NOT going there. When I do "catch" a virus, I'll gladly reinstall from start, quit paying for the internet, and surf from the library exclusively. I'm VERY careful about giving out my email address, and am careful about downloading stuff too, but still I'd say I've just been lucky so far, I'm sure I can't be lucky forever.
