One thing I really hope works in OOTP9...

...is the ability to re-import names and ethnicities. Downloading a roster/quickstart from somewhere and being stuck with whatever data files the creator happened to be using at the time is annoying.

We're supposed to be able to do this in the current version, but that function is broken and doesn't work. I understand that Redsoxford has sent a suggested fix for this to the OOTP team, here's hoping they either pay attention to him or fix it on their own.

Hmmm... the function works properly in my tests. It is not designed to replace existing names of players, but rather mark them as unavailable for future use when generating new players.

I've done tests on that and it doesn't work. I started a game with the normal files, changed them to just having one first and one last name per nameset, reimporting it and the next draft class did not just consist of that one name...

If you have just a few names then the a saftety checks in and makes other names available.

What's the minimum limit on names per nameset?

Try 100, that should work.

Same here. Markus, Redsoxford, please make sure this works in OOTP9.

I'll create a 100 names per nameset test tomorrow and try it out. Personally, I think it should work in any situation where you have at least one name per nameset.

Should also include nicknames, according to this thread.

Well, I did some tweaks and now it will work without a safety check for a minimum number.

I was just creating a names file with 100 per nameset to test the min-number theory - quite a tedious job even with Excel.

Thanks! The ability to use our own data files with tosters and quickstarts is much appreciated!

Can I ask that someone on the beta team test this and make sure that it works?

Thanks Markus for this correction! Re-importing the names and ethnicities files was a stickler for me since I like to run historical fictional teams. Glad to see this is being addressed.

Now only if we could re-import the nations data file.....

I don't think it's a slight against him but it's always good to have another set of eyes check over something.

Exactly. Plus he thought it already worked and it just doesn't.
