Injuries effect on talent

Another question....Do injuries have an effect on talent rankings? I have not noticed a trend either way, but am wondering if the game engine takes it into account. Also, do longer-term injuries have more of a negative impact than short-term injuries?

I have fund injuries to definitely affect talent, especially serious and long-term injuries. Some vey talented players have their talent devastated by injury. I think it also is more common with older playrs.

My top centerfielder had an extended injury and, when he came back, he has never been the same.

Personally, one gripe I have had, though I haven't said anything in the forum since I never saw it bought up anywhere, is that I have NOT had any talent hits from any injury, short term or long term. Once they are back on the field they pick up right where they left off. Seems a bit unrealistic to me.

You're getting really, really lucky.

One thing that I notice that I really like is when I get a player back from injury they always take a few days to get readjusted. Even my best players usually struggle for a bit. Now that might be an anomaly but who knows.

Talent hits from injuries are, in fact, part of the game. So is 'rust' (as it was called in Front Page Sports Baseball); players do in fact play worse after a layoff. They're also more likely to get hurt, which is why you always see several big injuries at the start of spring training.

Yeah, they happen. I really wish they didn't some times, but it's part of the game. Unless you are StyxNCa apparently

I don't know why my players haven't suffered. Two seasons ago, my oldest player, at 32, was out for 6 weeks. When he went out in May he was batting .240. I thought, before the injury, that he was starting to drop off in his ability. After his injury he went on a tear and ended off hitting .313 for the season.

This past season the 3 injuries of any significance had no effect. My star centerfielder went out batting .313. After 5 weeks injured during July, he came back and ended off at .310. The other injuries I have had over the past couple seasons were pitchers, yet they didn't fall off after their returns. Even the pitcher who got injured in Sept of the previous season and didn't return until June of the next season. He was his usual self which put me in a bind because the guy who took his place in the rotation was doing very well. I was disappointed that there was no effect, but at the same time I was glad their wasn't. Just didn't seem realistic to me that none of them paid any price after returning. All but the one guy I mentioned earlier were very young, under 24 years old, so maybe that plays into it.

Who knows. Maybe it has been just luck.

I will add however that a couple of the players did receive a hit on their ratings, but their performance didn't suffer.

I've never seen evidence of any type of rust. I believe it's there, just never seen anything to make me say "it's just rust, he'll work through it".

I have had many players decimated by injury, none were immediately dead though. They've dropped 'talent', and then later their current ability dropped slowly to match it. But I've never had a guy go down for a month that was a superstar that didn't come back as a superstar and finish the year as a superstar. One guy was dead the next year, but that's different.

It's also not universal. The best pitcher I've ever seen in OOTP, just from stats, was very injury prone early in his career. His first 4-6 years was spent making maybe 7-10 starts a year because of massive injuries... but ended up coming back for a 31 win season in a 5 man rotation. He ended with 300 wins and other very good HOF stats. His injuries didn't seem to do anything but either strengthen him (which I know it didn't) or just keep him from making starts. He probably missed 8 complete years combining all his injuries... if he hadn't been injury prone...

I think my younger players recover better than older players. When and older pitcher gets hurt, his ratings almost always fall off. Which makes sense.

i've never really had a short term injury mess up a player. but i have seen prospects go from a four star potential to a one star potential thanks to a long term injury.
