Later Rounds in the Draft / Development Question
Hey all, I've been playing OOTP for about a month now, and one part of the game that seems to utterly unpredictable to me is the drafting of 1 star potential players. Is there any pattern that they take? ie, do HS players stand a better chance of a break out than college players? Power pitches more than finesse?
Sort of along those same lines I have never really understood the huge talent increases that can occur, is it totally random? Or is a player who is putting up great stats in the minors more likely to break out? Maybe it's heavily coaching dependent? ![]() |

If you really want to find out, run a lot of tests. Have a scenario where coaching is off (or bad coaches) and follow the 1 star guys. See how they progress. Follow their personality ratings. See how they progress. Follow their stats. See how they progress. Etc.

I'll dodge the issue of random talent bumps, since those are discussed elsewhere.
I usually use feeder leagues, and that helps (I love the stats), and the following are items that I take a look at: * Good stats in the current year * Good stats in prior years, but an injury in the current year (be sure to check that it's not career threatening) * One trick ponies, e.g. guys with outsized power but nothing else of interest * Good field, no hit guys. Unlike real life, a lucky talent bump could make these guys valuable. * Good current ratings. They'll start higher, do better initially, and maybe they'll get lucky. |
