Keeping injury prone players on the field?
What, if anything, can you do to help keep an injury prone player from getting hurt?
My star CF is showing himself to be pretty injury prone, getting dinged up with 3-4 minor injuries a season with a couple DL stints, usually right around playoff time. I've set my depth charts to give him every 6th day off now, rather than "If starter tired", but I don't know if that's going to have any effect other than reducing his AB when not injured.

In NL teams, you can't do that. I have a player that is very injury prone that won the batting title last year in his first healthy season. He's an absolute stud, but he gets hurt every year. I didn't do anything different, luckily he just stayed off of the DL. Had a couple of missed games, but nothing major.

No, its not shown. For some players, like my CF, you just look at the history and its quite obvious

For guys who are prone or seem to just get banged up easily regardless if he is listed as...I basically use defensive subs in games where I'm up by three or more past the 6th inning (except in the post season or in a important regular season game).
I also will try to give him a day off from time to time. Normally I only give a guy a day off if he is tired. Usually I will wait for a poor pitcher to come along where I think my back up has a chance to get some good ABs. Usually though, if the guy is 28 or younger I try and get value for him through trade. I'm much more willing to protect vets who can still perform from injury then I am the younger one. The only reason I don't trade the vet players of that type is I like seeing them chase down milestones.

OR, I shall redirect everyone to this thread when talking trade, saying "trade for him now, he'll get hurt less once we convert".

This is true and I'm glad it's being fixed. I've seen too many Moises Alous.

dola,
Defensive subbing works, as does simply benching the guy if you've clinched and are near playoff time. I will also sometimes sit a guy if I'm playing a game that does not appear to be important (e.g. I'm a great first place team playing a last place team and I'm 10 games up on the 2nd place team in August). I'll bench injury-prone players for stretches when I don't need them as much. The way I view it, it allows me to choose when they will miss time rather than have them miss time when I'd really like to have them around. And if I'm benching a guy, I can always bring him into the game if things get dire. Not so with an injured guy.
