Turn into coach...

Added "turn into coach" feature for retired players

I love this feature and I didn't even know it was going to be in there. That is so cool! Whohoo!

Frankly, I'd have preferred a "turn into bear" option.

I really like this option. Now you promote that HoF player you've had on your team for 20 seasons into a coach.

yes nice addition.

To me it is the collection of 100 little things like this that really sets OOTP apart.

This is a nice little addition that in future releases may even lead to the ability to assign player/managers.

Does anyone know if there's a better way to track coaches histories in OOTP9? In OOTP8 it seems very difficult to track coaching history, unless I not looking hard enough.

I have only been able to track them when they served as managers. I wish there was more to the coaching history as well. It would be cool to see their career progression...

For that matter...do they progress? Or are their stats fixed....I have never figured that out.

If you're talking about their ratings, yes they progress, both managers/coaches and scouts (and doctors). And AFAIK, there's no in-game method to track them. I've set up a spreadsheet for my league that I use to track all personnel, their salaries, and their positions. It's a lot of work, but its one of those little 'immersion' things that I like to do.

I think it would be sweet if it tracked personnel history, the year's they were on a team (as well as when they were unemployed), their salaries, the number of teams they helped lead to the WS, WS rings, etc. And you could pull it up like a baseball card, it lists the person's career year-by-year, the position he held, the team, etc.

Wow! I'm VERY impressed! This was one of the things that I've wanted to be able to control. I love being able to have a Greg Maddux in your league, become a HOF pitcher, and then have him (possibly) drive the pitching staff of your team!!!

My grandfather does that. It works out great for him.

Turning into Coaches after retirement as players ???

This should be that as many of the managers of today in baseball are former players, they should be assign to their teams in a specific year.

Playing in historical fashion and lets say starting in a specific year all the teams would then have whatever manager (former player) they actually historically had as manager. Not as in OOTP8 a fictional manager.

Perhaps in OOTP9 it will need some editor work in first looking up all the retired players that turned into managers. Making them managers/coaches and then get rid off all the fakes ones and fill in the correct managers of your starting year... Wishfull thinking of course !!!!!!

I think it would be easier for them to add a tracking bears feature than tracking coaches histories.

One thing that's bugged me about in game coaches and managers. If you run a team and have a manager hired on, you still pile up manager wins and appear on the manager list. That's dumb. If you want to manage your team, you should be able to name yourself as manager and then you compile manager stats. If you are just the GM and let your manager call the shots, why should you both compile manager stats?

I would have preferred "clone player and make clone a rookie".
