I will start with some kind of fictional league. I always have a hard time sticking with a league. If I can get past the first season or two (I play out my games) than I'm golden.

If I have trouble getting into a new league....I have a league I used to commish online that is now defunct that I can continue on is solo play. The familiarity and stats will keep me interested.

Import my OOTP8 Fictional Universe and continue as I have been playing...controlling 1 team, setting all lineups, making all the GM moves, and simming 1 week at a time.

I will import my OOTP2007 historical I have going...I just finished the 1904 World Series. Every two years I hold a World Cup. In 1911, the 2nd place nation (based on rankings I've devised that factor in historical/most recent/last World Cup performances) will get its own league full of fictional players. Every ten years I'll create a new league in a new country, each league run differently...so if I get tired of one, I can just move on to another team/league/country.

No online stuff...no dynasty...no obligation.

How will I play? Pretty much non-stop until my wife objects to my obsession and I take her to dinner in order to make amends.

As some of you have mentioned, I too have a tendency to enjoy the creation process more than the gaming function, so I'll try once again to create a blend of historical and fictional leagues that will feel "right" and that will satisfy my "what-if" jones.

My hope for my first game

Really excited about the new release, but I wanted to see if this is at all possible.

I want to start in 1968, as this was really my first year of replay with strat-o-matic and it will be interesting to see how the r/l game will play with the 1968 database

But as I'm a noob and don't really know how it works exactly, I can start a historical league in 1968, and play through the ML season, no problem.

But my question is this:

I want minor leagues. At least 3-4 levels. Do most suggest that I just populate with ghost players the first year and then the draft in 1968 will start populating enough players to where I'll have a full system with real players in, say, 10 years? Not sure what most do here.

Because in general, it feels like the database would add a player who had 500 ABs his first year in the majors and he'd go right to the lowest minor level. I don't necessarily want that.

Is there a way to have it so that new players get placed in the minors, say 3 years before their actual debut? Would it screw with certain numbers?

Bottom line I want a historical league with realistic minor systems.

Thanks for any help!

I'm not too sure, actually. I'm split between a real modern day MLB setup, or just a fictional setup that I can tweak to my liking. The fictional league that comes with the game should be interesting...I'm hoping some people make a few "fictional universe packs" too so I don't have to install logos/uniforms for all my teams.

I'll continue my OOTP2007 historical replay which began in 1901 and is up to 1906 now...in fact, I just reached September 1906, so I should be done with that season just in time to import into OOTP9 upon its release!

May also try out a historical league starting in 1871 - curious to see those really old-time players in action.

You will have a box where you type the year in that you want to start. There is a button to add minor league level, or levels. It's easy to get 3 levels of minors quickly.

A three level minor league system will not be full of real players for 40+ seasons or more. There are not enough real players in the database to do so.

Newly drafted players usually need 1-2 seasons in the minors, to get them really ready.

It won't be until you hit the 2008 season that you could hope to fill the minors, and those will be fictional players.

Isn't there a button in League Options to "Fill Teams With Fictional Players" or something like that, so that you could start with full minors???

Thanks Raider. As a follow-up, is it better to have ratings reset every year? Or would you recommedn to just have ratings based on career numbers and go from there?

I've found the 3 year recalc to provide the best results (for me). It is an option in the league setup. Though, you might want to do the 1 year recalc if you want to mimic the actual season.

I've got my Pinoy league all set up and ready to go. Started in 1960 (1990 settings), simmed 25 years and expanded in 1985. Then simmed until 2008 and expanded again. Ready now to take over one of the expansion teams. I've done this league a number of times in OOTP8 but could never get into actually playing. I think because of the tediousness of the scouting system. I'm hoping OOTP9 will be better in this regard.

This will be the first time I've had a league I like so much that I will import it into the next version. I usually try different league setups but never find the right combination that I want to stick with.
Really attached to the players in my fictional league. Facegen is a huge addition.

I'm not big on surprises. The manual lets me know what to expect, and Battists does such a very very good job on the manual. Besides, you guys have put so much work into the design & tweaking of the game, I want to be sure that I'm getting the most out of it, and above all else - I want to utilize the new features, like ballflight. Thanks again to everyone on the development team for all their hard work.

I'll probably spend the evening setting up the historical fiction Worldwide baseball universe I've mapped out, which starts in 1871. Maybe I'll sim one season or let it sim overnight and wake up in the AM to see what happened.

I would be interested in seeing how you have that mapped out.

You may start in say 1950 and sim till 1968 to add players, then start your play.Maybe set to no trades if you want your teams players intact.
