OOTP marketing idea
I'm a Steam gamer - Welcome to Steam - and via Steam I play Counterstrike, Team Fortress, Portal, etc. Steam handles the online sales, online delivery, and online play of games to nearly three million gamers like me.
Let me suggest that OOTP look into OOTP 9 becoming one of those games, and before someone comments that games like OOTP 9 wouldn't work on Steam be aware that both Baseball Mogul and SI's soccer game are both successfully part of the current Steam catalog. Getting access to that many gamers has a lot to be said for it.

That is a fantastic idea. Not only would it reach a broader audience, it would put the game against its competitor, and potentially make it more available to certain reviewers (Gamespot, etc.).

What, they are in this business and you don't think that they thought of this already?

Hmmm. Must be relatively new then. Like post-Marc Duffy days.

Mal, how's the stability and ease of use of the downloader? Paradox uses a similar system called Gamers Gate and they can never seem to get their act together to put out a completely fiction-free downloader.
I guess you wouldn't be suggesting this unless it were pretty reliable. I wonder what kind of cut this outfit takes from the games it sponsors. |

Why is an idea bad because it doesn't cater to the Mac crowd? It's not like OOTP woud no longer be available for mac...

Only problem I can see with it not working on Mac's is Marcus would have to make two entirely different patches, for two entirely different distribution systems. Until there's a Mac version it's probably more trouble than it's worth.
Steam is awesome. I love it. Makes life so much simpler. I've got about 15 titles off the service and it's great when I get a new machine. Saves fannying about with disks, downloads etc... Just get Steam installed, get your games going, leave your system on. Though I'd much prefer sticking with Elicense despite all that. I like how Elicense works. You don't have a secondary program running in the background for starters. I like Elicense's simplicity . |

I also don't care for anything else taking up system resources sitting in the background. I'd be fine with E-License if they just had an easier/quicker way of calling them to get a reset.

So, it sounds like 1998 Yankees was correct. How… very expected.

LOL, I actually may well have been the first one, since I first thought of it a long time ago.
But since you now know about it publicly, what are you doing about it? If you don't get with the program soon, Baseball Mogul is going to eat OOTP's marketing lunch., since lots of guys only buy games via Steam (easy buying, easy downloading, easy installing, easy to access your games from whatever computer you are on, etc.) and all three million Steam users see the ads and buy at least some games online. Three million gamers want to know what your plans are..

I't pretty amazing on how far you've progressed in 2 years: Now your asking OOTP to move to this.
