Does OOTP 8/2007 Crash When You Sub for an Injured Pitcher? Post League Details Here!

I know that the mysterious "Crash to Desktop When Subbing for an Injured Pitcher" bug doesn't affect everyone - in fact, those who are affected appear to be in the minority. Which is why this bug is easily forgotten.

But for those of us who are affected, this is a huge problem, and we'd like to figure out why we're the only ones who are experiencing it. Did something happen to our league files at some point? Is there some setting or configuration common to our leagues that might explain why it affects us but not others?

Numerous threads get started about this issue by the few frustrated people who deal with it, and then they get buried. I'm sorry to start yet another one, but this one has a different aim.

The only way to figure out why our leagues experience this bug is for those of us affected by this issue to post information about the type of league we're playing. Maybe we'll be able to find a commonality that will help Markus and co. make sure they've fixed this bug. So far I've heard "we're pretty sure it's fixed" for OOTP 9 - I'd feel better if they were certain.

I'm not sure how much depth we need to get into, but for now let's just start with the league type (historical or fictional), the year you started, and anything else unique you think might be worth noting. Do you remember a time when you used to be able to sub for an injured pitcher without a crash?

Here's the related tech support thread on this issue: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...er-injury.html

So Aaron Spew, Big Orange, munson66, Simmo13, Ktulu, OldFatGuy - anyone who posted in that thread and anyone else who is consistently running into this frustrating issue - please post any details you can about your league here in this thread. I'm not sure we'll be able to come up with anything useful, but it's really all we can do.

Thanks everyone!

My league is a historical league beginning in 1970. I started the league using the latest patch of OOTP 2007 and have used that same version throughout the existence of my league. I use mostly the default settings and created AAA, AA, and A systems similar to real life. I import my rookies directly to their real teams. The only thing I remember doing out of the ordinary was disabling the Rule 5 draft in 1971 (since it didn't get scheduled properly) and disabling AutoExpansion (since I didn't like that it renamed the Senators to the Rangers immediately once the Offseason began).

Looking back at my almanac, I actually did experience pitcher injuries in 1970, but I didn't have any in 1971. If I recall correctly, my first "pitcher injury" crash didn't even take me to the sub screen. It happened at the end of the inning, and the game immediately crashed to desktop. From that point on, I haven't been able to sub for an injured pitcher no matter what method I use. I've even had the problem with position players on occasion.

I did have a pitcher get injured in 1972, but it happened on the final play of the game, so I was able to click the "LEAVE GAME" button at the bottom left to avoid the crash.

I started using the DH for my AL team in 1973 (just like in real life), and was hoping that might fix the problem (since it always crashed when I changed a player's position to "P"), but now it just crashes as soon as I drop a player into the "Current Pitcher" slot.

I'm not sure if there's anything else relevant, but depending on what other people post, I'll add more if necessary.

Oddly enough, I have stumbled upon a workaround. If your pitcher is injured in game play, you're taken to your team's substitution screen. Well, try clicking the tab for the other team's substitution screen, then click back to your own team. Now insert the replacement pitcher in your batting lineup as intended and set his position to P. Seems to work. Still, it'd be nice not to have to remember to do this.

I have tried doing that (clicking back and forth between the other team's substitution screen) and it still crashes for me, but I'll try it again next time it happens. I use DH's now, so my only option is to drag the pitcher into the "Current Pitcher" spot.

I remember once I even tried unsetting everyone's position to "-" back in 1972 when I didn't use the DH yet, but as soon as I set the pitcher to "P" - CRASH!

Are you doing a fictional or historical league out of curiosity?

EDIT: Nope - just had a pitcher get injured, switched from my lineup sub screen to the opponent's lineup sub screen and back, dragged my pitcher to the "Current Pitcher" spot and BOOM - still crashed. Glad this workaround works for you, but not for me I guess.

Fictional league, no DH. (Thinking of introducing it -- seems to be a lot of poor-fielding first basemen with contact ratings around 65-70 in my AAA league.) I'm on a Mac, as a further data point.

Well, our leagues couldn't be any different! I'm on a PC...

Not a good start in our hopes of finding a common element that causes the issue, eh?

As far as we can tell, this issue has been fixed for OOTP 9.

Thanks Nutlaw - that's what I've been hearing. But since I know not everyone experiences it, I worry that the beta team just hasn't been able to reproduce it because it seems to be a somewhat rare bug. I'll be curious if when I convert my league over from OOTP 2007 to OOTP 9 if the crash will still happen. I guess we'll see - I plan to try that with the demo as soon as it becomes available.

Well, just in case it isn't fixed, we'll have this thread for brainstorming ideas for the first patch of OOTP 9.

My league that it happened EVERY time was a 24 team league, with RL stadium graphics, RL teams with all the bells and whistles (jerseys, hats, logos). League dated 1901 with no DH, no minor leagues (reserve roster).

Now, here's the real kicker. I've spent the last 2 weeks TRYING to replicate the problem, using various setups and was unable to do so. Finally, I started a new league WITH EXACTLY THE SAME SETTINGS AS THE ORIGINAL LEAGUE. Same teams, stadiums, jerseys, names, league options, everything the same. So far, I'm up to June 1901 and have had three pitchers injured and it worked perfectly. I have no clue why, the only other thing not exactly like the original league is that I was further along in the time frame (August or Sep 1901) before I started noticing the problem. So, either the file became corrupted somehow (and if that's the case it would be REAL NICE to know what caused the corruption), or the bug doesn't show up until the league is a little older. I'll post again in a couple of weeks once I've progressed to Aug/Sep timeframe.
