Everybody's got a hometown team in the Continental Baseball Confederacy

Now available, the Continental Baseball Confederacy.

The CBC has 64 divisions: one for each US state and Canadian province, plus Puerto Rico and the Canadian territories. (There are also bonus teams from Guam, American Samoa, US Virgin Island, St Pierre et Miquelon, and Greenland.) The Western Association features the leagues west of the Mississippi plus Wisconsin, everywhere else is in the East.

Teams are allocated by state population. All states have an even number of teams. The smallest (like Delaware and Yukon) have 4: the largest (California, Ontario) have 10. Teams within states are given to the most important cities - generally. Sometimes I've given smaller cities teams so as to create some geographic diversity. (If I went solely by population, for instance, Nevada would be all Vegas and suburbs and the folks in the north wouldn't have anyone to root for.)

Team names and logos selected by me. In many cases I've used historic team names and logos and even historic stadiums (stats for them calculated using Gambo/Echopapa's database).

Attendance averages around 22K per game, ticket prices around $7. There is revenue sharing and equal media revenues. Free agency exists. There are no minor leagues, but you do get reserve rosters.

At the end of the season, the champions of each of the 64 divisions line up in a NCAA-style tournament until only one remains- the winner of the Cartwright Cup.

As you might have expected, there's no amateur draft (it would just be unworkable with 400+ teams.) The game also runs pretty slowly, so avoid it if you've got a slow computer.

Feel free to raid it for logos, team names, or stadia for your own games.

Very cool. I'll have a look. I'd been thinking about doing something similar, but just for the US.

Great idea, but I'm definitely going to need to buy a new PC before I can play with this league.

Finally deciding to get off my ass and play OOTP...

Hopefully 768 megs of ram and a 3 gigglehertz CPU will be enough

Assuming Filefront ever lets me download...

My computer just isn't up to the task on this. I thought it would be, but I guess it's just too much. It's unbearably slow for me. It runs at about 2.1 GHz and has 1+ GB of memory. I love the concept, though.

Yeah, I can't run it at any speed myself, but think of it this way: in a few years you'll have a much faster computer and you'll be able to run it.
