Gambo DB Question

Okay I have downloaded the DB but I am really dumb

Which files from the 2007 Import File do I have to open and delete?

And which Lahman files do I have to copy and paste from?

Is it all the files? If so, when I open them in notepad, I can't make any sense out of some of them.

Also do you base a league on years remaining, career years or peak years?

you dont have to delete any files. let's say you want to start w/1980. go into your 2007 import folder and open batting.csv in notepad or any text editor. delete every line from the beginning through 1979, so the first line you'd see would be for 1980. then go to the lahman folder and open batting.csv in notepad and copy everything from the beginning through 1979 and paste that into the batting.csv file from the 2007 import folder. save the file. repeat for pitching.csv and fielding.csv. (the lahman folder contains only 3 files, so thats the key if you forget which ones youre supposed to edit).

also, i would recommend setting age restrictions on your major leagues so you dont have teens starting. eg, in a 1986 import i tried, ken griffey jr was drafted as a 16 yo and after a short stint at AAA, ended up in the majors. (IRL, didnt happen until 1989 when he was 19. he spent 1987 in the northwest league).

so you may want to put age minimum of 18 on the majors and maybe AAA as well to prevent this.

if youre still having trouble getting the db to work rite, let me know and i can tweak the necessary files

Okay got through that. Now I get a runtime error during facegen creating faces.

I only get it when using this DB. Regular Lahman works fine.

strange.
well, not sure if i can help with this one as i use a mac. i havent had any problems with gambo's db in that respect. now, i havent tried real players w/facegen yet, ive just been using real photos but in theory it shouldnt matter.

let me try a gambo import using facegen and see what happens.

If gambo's new DB isn't a career average db, then why do we have to delete anything?

Because there are lines for each year between pro-debut and mlb-debut, with figures to generate "pre-majors" level ratings.

The most likely issue is that there happens to be more players when using my database and it's using alot more of the computer's resources to make those players faces. (graphics are always much more datasensitive)

If your using my DB then just use the photopacks available. You can create face gens for the fictional players later.
