You might have to create a World Template folder if it doesn't already exist. I'll check later tonight for the exact name of the folder, but the directory should be listed in the manual. I think it's called "world_templates", though. Make that in the data directory and stick it in there. For some reason, the game doesn't automatically create an empty one. Let me know if it doesn't see it then.

I'm in the 13th season using this template and I've had pretty good results so far, statistically. I did a couple hundred year sims and things lined up well, too. While I had thought about updating it since I have since expanded my league, I'll likely just wait and develop one for OOTP9 instead when it hits.

I did create the world_templates folder and put the file in there but it still doesn't show up when I try to load template.

I'm not really sure what the issue is. I've moved it around to different folders but it still doesn't find it.

Wow I'm a dunce haha.

Apparently I had installed the game in two separate areas on the computer. I now remember the first time I tried to install the game my computer froze up so I apparently installed in another directory.

Sorry for not thinking things through entirely haha.

Haha, no worries. I was right about to suggest making sure it was in the 2008 folder and not the 2007 one. Let me know if there are any other problems!

I got everything working. The only other question I have right now is do I still have to go into every team and edit colors to get the ballcaps to work right? Or was that fixed in a patch?

I'm in the process of doing it now but I can stop if I don't have to do it haha.

If anyone else happens to know other than MidKnight feel free to answer. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks to everyone for their help already.

Unfortunately, you still do. I'm not sure why this hasn't been fixed, but it's likely not very high on the priority list. It's annoying, I know, but at least you only have to do it once!

I've already been working on it luckily. I'm on the last league's teams right now. I wonder if the demo will let me sim the entire history and then let me play till August in a current year. I'm not really sure how the demo works. I'm not too worried about it though, I plan to buy the game Friday. I will have most of it set up already anyway.

Thanks for all your help MidKnight. This league file you have done looks amazing from what I've seen so far.

MidKnight, I have sort of an odd favor to ask.

My computer keeps freezing just about every year that I sim, and when I re-open it it is back where I last saved. It always seems to freeze when I leave it and try to let it sim.

Do you have a copy of that 99 year sim you did where the all-time homerun leader had 725 homers, the record was 68 in a single season, etc?

At this point all I want to do is play the game instead of simming all those years. The only reason I want all the years simmed is so the league will have a full history and everything.

If you have a league file where you simmed about 100 years or so from 1900 or 1901 on, can you please upload it? I would be very gracious and appreciative of this. My computer just doesn't seem to want to cooperate when it comes to simming the entire history of my league.

If you can't or you don't have the file, it's okay. Just please let me know something either way. I'm not going to continue trying to re-sim at this point because it will just end up freezing again.

Thanks for everything.

The reason it's likely crashing is because it's the demo version. If I'm not mistaken, one of the limitations is that you're not supposed to be able to play past July or August (somewhere around there) of the league's first year. Though, it should pop up with a message rather than crashing. Using the league file with history won't help either, since it's already been played past the inaugural July or so. If you're playing the full version, give me a head's up and I'll see what I can find.

I think the computer is freezing cuz it gets overheated from being on too long. I was just looking into getting a league file so i could just play here and there without having to leave the comp on to sim for extended time periods.

btw i may be buying the game tonight.

I bought the game. w00t w00t haha. I'm gonna try to sim some more tonight and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure FaceGen is giving me minor issues. It seems to freeze when it's adding/updating player faces at the end of each season. So far that is where it has frozen both times it froze during simming. It seemed to take forever to even make any sort of progress then froze around 40% when doing this.

One question. If I imported my 2006 league (which goes from 1901-2007), would anything show up in the almanac? Or will the almanac only show years that are simmed in OOTP8?

Not sure about the 2006 almanac. In regards to it stopping every year when simming, make sure the almanac settings are off (if you don't want it on); I have mine set up to automatically do it every december 31st, and it takes forever (25+ minutes) since it's set to cover all leagues and all photos. Setting FaceGen to only generate photos upon demand is very helpful in speeding up the process as well.

Is the Almanac really worth the 25+ minutes it takes to do it? If it's not really all that much better than the history that's already included, I may just disable it altogether to speed things up with the sim.

I finally got simmed up till 2007.

I took over the Detroit Bombers team, who haven't won a World Series since 1910. I'm trying in 2008 to get them there.

Last time I checked, my homerun leader all-time was at 718. Single season record was at 56. I'm digging those numbers for sure. At last check (this was in the 80s though...) my all-time wins leader was only 305 though. Only two or three pitchers have ever won 300 games in their career. That's pretty wild but I'm not too bummed about it. Quite a few pitchers have made the HOF due to having 250+ wins and a good ERA.

Overall I'm loving the game, and I'm loving this fictional universe. It's a blast to play and FaceGen really adds a lot to the game. And MidKnight, and everyone who MidKnight used stuff for his file, all your hard work on the hats, team colors, logos, etc is magnificent. It's a truly immersive baseball experience and I haven't had this much fun since OOTP5.

Sweet! Good to hear that things are going well and that you're enjoying it. This was the first OOTP version where I could put enough stuff together to be really happy when I started a league. I love the cool little things, like being able to look back at a Hall of Famer's high school statistics.

I'm in the 13th year of my league now, and the first crop of initial draft players is winding down. I expanded the league in 1907 and took over one of the teams (Philadelphia Hawks) after leading the Admirals to two titles. After years of having a losing team, I took them to the World Series and lost in Game 7. Ah well!

The current homerun leader looks poised to hit about 600 if he stays healthy the rest of his career. The wins leader might hit about 260 before he retires. I'm thinking I might expand the league again in 1920...

As the ballparks are named numerically is there a list available of how the could be assigned manually?

Many Thanks
Just downloaded this, and I'm having the same problem. Everything else works, but not the stadiums. It must be something to do with the dat files because the file name for each park is something like ballpark_image 1 (at work now so not sure). Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

I didn't even pay attention to this. But I do notice now that the stadium pictures don't show up. It's not really a huge deal to me but if someone knows how to fix it I will definitely change what I need to since it does add even more to the game.

Are you guys using OOTP2007 or OOTP8? I'll take a look at it tonight or tomorrow and get back to you.
