Free Agents

Ok, Some background. I am playing without financials. It is Jan 3, I looked at the free agent group and there are at least 10 pitchers that are available that I could sign that would be better than guys on my roster. Can I sign all of them? and what are the repercussions. Do they all automatically go on my 40 man roster? Do I have to waive 10 players first to make room? If I sign all of them how does it affect me negitively if I have no financials?

Hey dude. I think you should post this in the discussions forum. Nobody really ever looks in here.

But im pretty sure there would be no bad effects. They would just fill up the roster and any that dont fit would be sent to the minors.

In 2007, even when you sign a player to a minor league contract, you have to be concerned about roster limits, for one thing. If you sign a player to a major league contract, he goes onto the 40 man roster automatically and you may run into the roster restriction there. You are not playing with financials, so team payroll is not a concern. However, in order to remove players from your 40-man roster, you need to waive them first and depending on the situation, you may lose them that way. There is the consideration of player morale as well; a player who is waived suffers a morale drop if I am correct. Finally, there is also the consideration of how you are going to manage the active roster from your 40-man roster. Obviously, the active roster can hold only 25 players so some players will need to be assigned to your minors (unless you trade them). The concern there is whether 1) they can actually be forced to go to the minors, and 2) what will happen to their morale when you make them go.
