New to thw game....questions

Hello everyone. As i've said i'm new to the game. I've bought the game some months ago but not much time to play until now...i see a patch is coming soon, so i'll wait a little more before starting to play a dynasty.
I'm from Italy, where baseball is not the number one sport, but i started watching some games a year ago. Then i found OOTP and decided to give the game a try. But i have some questions and need some advice from more experienced players.
I'd like to start playing a dynasty with real players and i'd like to take a bad team and make it a champion. I don't have a team i like more then others...so my first question is: a good team and a good year to start.
Then, a few tips on how to play the game....the season is so long with all those game: is it better to simulate them or maybe to play all of them??

I forgot to say i will use real players but will not use the option to re-rate them based on real life performance...i want to let "a new world" shape based on the game performance.

Thanks a lot for all the help, if you have more advice please fell free to tell them!!!

I think there will be a lot of good answers to your 'what team?' question. I might choose one of the expansion teams, which are guaranteed to be pretty bad. So, you might try Toronto or Seattle around 1977/1978, or try Arizona, Colorado, Florida or Tampa Bay in their expansion seasons if you want a team from the 1990s.

As for how to play, well, play the way you find most fun! I'm normally too impatient to play out every game, but for some, it's the best way to get immersed in their universe, and to get to know their own team. I'd suggest playing out your first few games (try one-pitch mode if it seems too slow) to decide if that's how you want to play, and if you don't like it, you could then start quickplaying your games, or simming a few days at a time.

Anticipating another question from somebody in your situation, Base Stealer, this was a fantastic thread started by a person who wanted to know more about the game of baseball itself; you may find it helpful:

hits + at bats + BA + OBP = confusion

You may find this thread interesting and helpful, if you are to chose your team from this year...(If you wanna use the 2007 roster set)

Worst team in the majors?

Thanks a lot for the replies!!!!
I've found the link by 1998 Yankees VERY interesting.
Myasu, i won't start from this year, i think i'll go with one of the expansion team in order to "make history" for that team. I have time until the patch is out to decide, but this is a good first step

If you have a specific questions about the game or the baseball rules, you should visit here.
There are so many great people here who would try their best to help you enjoy the game. (1998 Yankees, injury log are two of the best IMO)
