noob question - lineup

Question: On the depth charts/lineups screen, when I use the "Starts..." dropdown selection, how do those different choices interact? For example, if I want my "super-sub" to start most games, can I set him to start "every 3 games" on 3 different positions and expect that to work? Will the game know to stagger that 3-game alternation? And then how does it work if I use both Utility 1 and Utility 2 with different subs? If I set 2 different guys to "start every 6th game" does that mean that out of 6 games, the starter gets 4 and the other 2 get 1 game each?

Honestly, I can't help you at all here. I don't even know if anybody has studied this.

I can tell you that from my experience (and of course, your mileage may vary) the game will most likely not be smart enough to stagger those 3-game start alterations among three different positions. If I had a super-sub I absolutely had to get in the game that often I would probably set him to, say, 4 games at LF, 3 games at CF, 5 games at RF or whatever. That way you know he gets in regularly at a variety of spots.

Hmm. Okay. Thanks for answering, maybe I'll look into this.

Another question: If I recall correctly from previous versions, when you go to play out a game and it presents you with a lineup, that was your default lineup with no changes made. Is this still the case, in other words do the "every x games" calculations only get made for simmed games?

That's one that can trick you a bit dependent on your settings. For instance, when playing out games, if you have lineup set to your manager the lineup screen you see in the Lineup comparisons screen might differ from the lineup that actually start once you begin the game as your manager will substitute for tired players or perhaps DTD's. If it is set that only you are controlling it, then what you see is what you get. The only one making any changes will be you.

Someone who sims more than I do might best answer the latter part of your question, but I've assumed that the depth changes I've put in my lineup apply to sims and my in-charge settings still apply, i.e. the depth chart and subs won't be altered from my settings if I control those aspects. If I don't, there may be some unusual moves I hadn't predicted.

Endgame - I assume the same as you, but I'll be keeping an eye on it and seeing what I get.

For that matter, now I'm wondering how the lineup/depth charts for vsRHP and vsLHP interact. If I set a certain guy to start "every 5 games" in the vsLHP depth chart, does that mean he'll start every 5th game that my team faces a lefty starter, or does that mean that every 5th game the game will check to see if the opposing pitcher is a lefty, and if so, start my guy? I wonder...
