Historical pitching staffs
So I started my league in 1929 and noticed that every team carries only 5 SP, 1 MR, and 1 CL. I'm assuming this is because that's how it was done back then. Can anyone confirm this for me?
Anyway, I feel like I am cheating by carrying more than this number of pitchers. all I need to do is get deep into their bullpen in the first game of a series and I can usually sweep them. Am I defying historical precedent here or is there just some setting I'm unaware of that's making this happen? Any advice would be appreciated. |

http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Pitcher - scroll down to "Historical Usage."
According to this source, you are 10 years before the time that "full-time relief pitchers became common." I would play by house rules that reflect the times if that is the case in your game. However, if this is a fictional game that you just chose to date as 1929, I know of no reason why the game would be aware of this historical fact. Of course, if you are playing somebody's quickstart, then that would be the answer perhaps.
