Um, so what that means is you designated a player for asignment 10 days ago, and now that those 10 days are up, you have to do something with him. either assign him to one of the teams in your organization or release him or trade him.

A problem is that if you haven't planned ahead for this, you may be limited in what you can do. Because the waiver period is probably 3 days, and your 10-day DFA period has expired, you more than likely won't be able to release the guy. Which means you have to assign him to a level of your organization. However, if he has a major league contract (i.e. a contract worth $$), which I'm guessing he does, then you have to put him on your 40-man roster. But if you don't have any space on your 40-man roster (which in all likelihood you may not), then you'd have to clear someone else first before you can assign him -- which (again) takes 3 days. Which you don't have, because Neal has to be assigned before you can move on a day.

But once you clear waivers you can be removed from the 40 right? maybe i'm missing what you are saying.

If a player is DFA he normaly is removed from the 40 man roster, why can't you release a guy that is still on waivers, unless someone has claimed him, you should be able to release him, and if he can be pulled back, you could try and trade him to the claiming team (this is done in MLB all the time, although not a funtion of OOTP).
For this perticular problem if this is the player in question, he was 10 days ago traded to Toronto and has been sitting in the DFA, I don't know if Dave has been trying to control the blue jays (he's acting as in the pic), but this trade needs to be completed as he got a player and has yet to do anything with him. If this is a roster set and Dave isn't managing toronto, the simple thing to do would be to allow AI roster movements (which for most pre-made roster sets is unchecked at start up). More info would really be needed.

Which is why they make the DFA period 10 days, 7 days longer than the waiver period. If you acquire a guy with a major league contract, you have a week to make a move to clear space for him on the 40-man. Quote:
(Another quick note on trading to the claiming team -- I see this happen a lot in OOTP too, actually. Late in the season when a lot of guys are going on waivers and I'll claim a few, I inevitably start getting offers from AI teams involving the player of theirs that I blocked on waivers (always far overstating his value). One team offered me about 7 trades for a 25 yr old above average MR who was probably never going to develop, asking for one of my biggest prospects each time, between September and November one year.)
