Couldn't this be considered more like the Diablo II, ebay item selling? You've legitimately bought the game, and with it you're essentially offering up a payleague fantasy baseball. People in the Diablo II game sold items they'd found on ebay; I'd say that as long as you legitimately bought the game you'd have the right to create, maintain, and even participate in a league that involved money.

Hell, I've thought of this myself before. I'd be interested in joining a payleague.

As long as I could have a team, I'd join and help in any manner I could.

I would say the league sim only a week at a time, so it isn't rushed in any way.
The fee should be between $6 & $10 dollars with the winner of the series getting a trophy sent to him with the runner up in the series getting free entry into the next season maybe.
Any left over money after the purchase of the trophy would be used for website upkeep and/or shipping of the trophy to the winner.

If the league is run well, it could become the premiere league in the OOTP community, and maybe even expansion could happen. If the league ever got larger than 16 team, like 20, 24 or even over 30 more prizes could be given out each year. (Like division winners getting something)

Think about it, whats 6 to 10 bucks every 3 or so months? That's like eating out at McDonalds just once. Anyone can afford it.

Lets do it! I will help the best I can, and even co-commish if wanted. I don't have the experience to head the project, but do have good game and some website experience. PM me for further talks.

I am laying ground work for a set of rules. This is the most important thing so everything is covered. After that I will create a website and officially open sign ups for this puppy.

Would anyone object to a fantasy draft?

Yes, there would have to be a draft. Are you talking about the owners picking, or having the game pick for them.

Also, maybe coaches and scouts should be turned off, so it would be even more balanced.

Oh, and put me down for a team now. I'm in.

Yes owners would select their teams, atleast 30 rounds worth. There would be an in depth ground work for the draft as well.

For those who are interested:

http://www.theislleague.com/payrules.htm

This is the rough draft of the rules I came up with the last two days. I welcome all comments and opinions. If I left something out, please let me know.

Thank you

BTW I was thinking about calling this league the Cyber Major League Baseball (CMLB) but that may be too close to the eMLB. I will also welcome suggestions for what to call the league

Interested

Difficult for me to comment on the rules, as I am a new-comer to OOTP. I am, however, quite intrigued by what I have read so far concerning the "Pay League" and would consider joining.

You have coaches turned on. This is fine, but it opens a door to a problem with the game. When a owner signs a coach or scout to a contract, it is an instant transaction. The problem is if two or more owners try to sign the same guy during the same sim period, it causes a problem within the game. Messes up the transaction log and I think something else too, but can't remember off hand what that was. Might want to look into this.

Question: Could a person own more than one team as long as trading between his teams is prohibited? (He would have to pay the entry fee for each team of course.)

I can see it now. A guy owns say two teams and then the league really takes off and the waiting list becomes so long that a person may have to wait years to get a team. But the guy who owns two teams could then sell the rights to one of his teams to the highest bidder bringing him maybe $50!

Yes, to dream.....to dream.

Fictional players?

BTW...will fictional or real-life players be used? Any thoughts on a starting year?

Appreciate you considering the potential closeness of my league name to your idea...I am not opposed to CMLB if you want to use it. Each league will just have to emphasize the "Cee" and the "Eee"

Awesome idea. I think you are going to get quite a bit of interest.

One possible problem. Seems to me that everybody will have a WIN NOW mentality. If your $6 gives you rights to a team for one season, teams may make signings or trades that make them as competitive as they can be for that 1 season. After the season, the team could be in financial trouble and/or no longer competitive. The owner then can bow out. That team comes up for sale, is it still worth the $6 for one season? What if there is another team that is for sale who had a quality owner who left it competitive? Are the two teams each $6?

I feel like after each season their has to be some kind of valuation process done for each organization. It will be tough to come up with something that takes into account the ML players, the minor league system, and a team's financial situation.

Just throwing it out there for some discussion.

Good point THam, but at $6 a season, it may be worth spending 6+6+6 a total of $18 over 3 years to build a winner that may make you $60 plus a league trophy.

This is just another thing that would make owners be more active and work their team the best they can. I think it all works out over the long run.

It's a great idea. Just wondering how will the money be collected? I, for example, lives in the Philippines, how could I send the money, if ever?

Would probably be done via PayPal. Very easy to sign up if you do not have an account. There will also be other options I will explore.

emlbcommish, thanks for the permission to use the ceee

Worst case, people could use the old "snail mail" method I would assume. Would only take 4 or 5 days at the most maybe to get it in. (Would want to send in advance toward each season end for the next year.)

Hows it going Bobby (jackflash)? I sent you a PM yesterday. Hope you have me down for the team I listed?

I just checked PayPal and in our country, the services is just limited to sending in money. That's not good.

$6 = Php 282 (Philippine Peso)

And it's just about 3/4 of my one day at work. It'll be fun to join but I'll probably just watch for now.

I think the idea is good and can work but I would personally not join a pay league where any of the following were true:
- The commish owned a team.
- People were allowed to have more than 1 team.

People with commish access have the ability to edit players. People who run the sims can run them however many times they want until they get results they like and there is no way for the rest of the league to know it's been done. People who own more than one team are potentially at conflict with putting a competitive team on the field for both teams.
