New Historical-Hybrid League now forming at BBSC

The year is 1939. The likes of players such as Joe Dimaggio, Bob Feller, Ted Williams, Hank Greenberg and Johnny Mize are just starting off their illustrious careers while superstars like Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove and Charlie Gehringer are starting to wind theirs down. It’s the beginning of a new dawn for baseball, where the first big wave of Ruth era superstars are starting to fade into the distance and new ones are emerging to take their places.

This is where Pappy’s Baseball Union will begin.

This is an ootp7/8 historical-hybrid league that we hope might turn out to be one of the deepest HL’s ever put forth. After months of putting this file together, we feel confident enough about it (and the many, many, many tests we’ve done) to finally put it into the public arena.

This is one of the deepest leagues you may ever come across in the historical field, roster wise. We spent a lot of time and effort in finding real players from the era and adding them to what the Lahman Database gave us. We found former Major Leaguers, known minor leaguers, college players and many others who are era safe that were nearly enough to fill out the minor leagues with. We then added Negro Leaguers and a few fictional literary guys, for some flavor. And then we added an independent Pacific Coast League complete with real rosters out of “The Early Coast League Statistical Record” that will act as yet another place for free agents to come out of, adding to the league’s overall supply of players.

In all, this universe will start with around 1100 players in the Majors and Minors (that’s around 70 players per organization to start) plus another 200 in the PCL. Seeing as trading has always been a hindrance for historical leagues of the past, we thought this might help alleviate that problem. There are tons of prospects to fill up a team’s minor leagues for that rebuilding project out there, or they can be used to get that big arm or bat you need to down the stretch, whatever your personal tastes are (or your team’s situation, anyway).

We're just now getting things underway over at BBSC There are 9 slots still open for GMs looking for some historical league action. We'll be having a draft setup as soon as the league's filled up, so if you're interested, check out the
league's home page, stop on over at SC and either post in the thread or contact knucklehead7 or thebishop. Thanks for reading.

Do you have a league constitution posted anywheres?

Mostly interested in:

League settings - such as recalc, financials, FA, what ratings scale is being used.

Also, what sort of sim schedule will you be running? How many times a week and how many games per sim.

Thanks

Nice logo for the league btw.

Hey, thanks for the reply

We don't have the league constitution up yet, but we do have a good idea of what rules we'll have in place from the other leagues we run over at SC.

I can say that we won't be using recalc, FA will be 6 years, financials will reflect the era without a cap and we'll be using a 1-10 rate scale. Sims will be 3 days a week (yet to be determined) and 2 weeks per sim (14 days per).

And thanks for the logo compliment. It mostly put together by Knuckler, partly by myself.

We're down to just 1 opening now, the St Louis Browns (though the A's could be had as I wouldn't have a problem moving over)

Okay, the league WAS full, but we unfortunately lost the Phillies owner due to technical difficulties. So, we once again have a team open. Incidentally the league has started drafting and it's the Phillies turn, so if you're interested in joining up, now would be an awesome time.

Here's the league's forum at SC

Pappy's Baseball Union - SimCentral.NET Forums

and the league's actual home page

Major League Baseball Home

As I said, we're actually drafting now. Players are still found on rosters on the home page mainly because it was the best way for people to see how much player's salaries will be.

We're looking for one steady, reliable owner here......drop on by and give us a look

Thanks
