Just a piece of advice to those frustrated with the game
Play fictional. Forget the MLB roster set. It seems as though almost every problem with the game is related to 'real' players.
You might be hell bent on only playing with real MLB players. Give it a chance anyway, once you aren't so frustrated with those problems you might actually be able to enjoy the game. |

Which will get better with the next patch, and perhaps even better with the one after that. It was a big undertaking, I gather, and they ran out of time. Not making an excuse for them, just a statement of my opinion.

For me,the draw was the historical option so I'm biased but I think its definitely the way to go.Just the ability to play through the entire history of baseball is phenomenal.I was actually tinkering with the thought of going historical with one change, the Athletics stay in Philly and the Phillies leave.I'm not sure if its possible to do this but it sure would be interesting to see how it would affect the sport.

I'm not having any problems with 2008 rosters, but, even if you are, please remember the perspective that you get the entire history of baseball from the 1870s to 2007 with no extra charge for season disks, etc.
If 2008 just won't work right, a patch should resolve, but in the meantime you have more than 130 other years to choose from.

I use BM 09 for my MLB fix and OOTP for my fictional league tastes. |

The problem is, a lot of people want perfection, exact rosters, complete minors, etc, which is very hard to do. The quickstart can be fun, but I don't like it because it has to many holes. I've become hooked on historical leagues again instead, but will probably update an older roster file or something so I can play a modern game as well. But the historical leagues and the amount of customization possible is what makes OOTP great.
I can run a league starting in 1901 with the majors and add leagues like the PCL, American Association, Federal League, etc and see what happens. Which is a lot of fun.

It's best to just use the pre-designed leagues. |

Just bumping this thread.
While I'm waiting until at least 5 years of history goes by in my MLB Fictional league before taking over a team.. just started simming 2011.. so far, everything looks like it should. I'm very pleased at what I'm seeing thus far from my universe. Funny thing is.. it takes me several short 1-2 hourly sessions of playing to get through a season because I love looking at just about everything that's going on in my universe. v9 is shaping up to be my favorite version yet... |

I'll second the OPs statement.
Additionally, I'd recommend having more leagues than just ML/minors unless you want to spend a lot of trial and error getting the settings right, because by default it injects too much talent into the league IMHO. |

Have fun!
I always set up my games with real players and let what happens happen. If I don't like it....I tweaked it. Hey even in real life GMs do things we don't understand or players fall of Hall of Fame paces into a black hole. |
