Steam is based on the West Coast. They should be getting the promotion on their site fairly soon now (I hope).

Thanks

Just wanted to follow everyone else and say thanks for a world of fun. This game, I'm sure has helped a bunch of us keep our sanity as we deal with human issues. I know it has pulled me thru some tough times. And helped me meet some great friends around the world.

Thanks,

Bob/TX Aggie

there is no ootp.exe file in that folder, as in set #2:

2. Rename the file "ootp9.exe" to "ootp9.exe.old".

Can I just download the patch, unzip, and execute or is that #2 for real?
Mike, it may that you have your Windows set to "hide extensions for known applications," which will make your "ootp9.exe" look like just "ootp9" as in the screenshot above. That's probably what had you confused... Sorry about that! (Well, it's not my fault, it's Microsoft's!)

Right. I finally figured it out. Although I think I replaced the old one rather than rename it.

Oh well. It seems to be working fine.

Thanks, battists.

Maybe we should add that to the download instructions. I imagine that setting is not uncommon.

Good thinking! I was totally stumped when I read his post. I thought maybe he installed it in a different folder, but it sounded like he had the folder alright so it couldn't have been that.

Trust me--it's worth the full price.

I agree 1000% with TX Aggie's post above!

We should not have to pay for a patch

I'm sure someone will suggest that I just download the patch, but that isn't feasible with dialup Internet. Yes, I tried it. The download turned out to be corrupt. No, I will not try it again. I wound up having to pay for a cd to be made There should be a way to *maybe* have to pay for shipment of the new executable (complete with patch). Is there?

I'm on dial-up, so downloading the complete game is no small matter. Takes all night and then some. Not too worried about roster files as I generally use fictional leagues. Wondering if there have been major upgrades to the text files that would make a full download worthwhile? Or would one be best to wait for the next (final?) major patch? Would it be possible to post a patch file with only the upgraded text files for those who aren't concerned with the MLB rosters?

I'm sorry about this. I'm not sure why you had to have a CD made. The new executable alone is only 8 MB, which should be manageable even with dialup, especially if you use a free download manager, which could also help prevent corruption of downloaded files. We largely made just the executable available precisely to aid dial-up customers like yourself.

I apologize, I'm not trying to be flippant here, but I'm not quite certain what you're asking for. Unfortunately, in this day and age, digital distribution of patches is the standard for practically every software product. For example, if Civilization or Microsoft Word comes out with a patch, they don't ship out new CDs.

Thanks very much,

Steve

I don't think there's anything in the text files that you need to worry about. The manual has been updated, but if that's not a concern for you, then don't worry about it!

If you have occasional internet access, you could always access the manual through the online site too, if need be.

Thanks for the info. Once the game has been "completed" to Markus's satisfaction and he's moved on to version 10, I'll likely download the full file again and get all the upgrades. Till then I'll just make do with the executable patches.

Hi Battists,

I thought I'd read on this site that only downloading the new executable would cause changes to existing leagues to not take effect. Did I misunderstand something? I have no problem in paying for another CD to be made, but don't think I should have to pay the full price minus the discount. What I'm trying to say is that I should not have to pay the full price for a 'patch' when I've already paid the full price. Does that make sense?

I learned a valuable lesson to routinely save the league. I simmed tons of games and mades trades and whathaveyou, then .... crash. Makes me not want to play that league anymore.

I am not sure where you saw that but I don't think it is accurate. Well, I know it isn't accurate because I download only the executable and have had no problem with it changing any settings in any of my leagues.

I would think that an 8gb download from a dialup wouldn't be too bad. I wouldn't pay for a cd version of the update, myself.

My heart does go out to you who are still on dial up. I would throw my computer away if I had to deal with that again. Either that or they would probably throw me in a nuthouse somewhere. I guess I am spoiled now but again, my hat's off to you who have to deal with that.

Well, it's true that downloading just the executable would not include the updates to the Major League roster set. But other than that, everything should work fine. Even the MLB roster set you can download separately from the full install.

All I'm saying is, there should be no reason in here at all for you to pay a cent more than you paid to buy the game. Heck, I'm sure there are plenty of people around here who would burn you a copy of the full install and get it to you!

I'm having problems with my downloads grinding to a halt on all the mirrors I've tried. I can't put my finger on why, although the fact that I'm forced to use IE 7 might have something to do with it (Firefox 3.0.1 simply refuses to run on my system for some unfathomable reason).

That said, I'm looking forward to getting the patched game working.

Thank you, Greatgrampa! When is our Christmas reunion this year? Seriously, here in Kentucky if you live in the country you're STUCK WITH DIALUP, unless you want to pay a ton of money for crappy satelite internet. The local telephone companies have a monopoly going (BellSouth, Southeastern Telephone). An 8gb download? Forget it.
