Scheduling problems
20-team, one division league. Trying to have the game generate a 171-game balanced schedule. But every schedule OOTP makes for me has 17 opponents that are played nine times each, one that's played eight times, and one 11. The end result is a 172 game schedule.
What am I missing? 19 x 9 = 171, right? Am I doing something stupid?

Wow, this is interesting! I often create twenty team, one division leagues. I chose to go with 152 game schedules and picked four games for the typical series length. (I stretch out the season by using three rounds of best-of-nine playoffs.)
First, try PMing Le Grande Orange with any questions you have about scheduling. He is THE authority on the subject, and he's very willing to help. Second, what are you using for typical series length? In your situation I might go with three games and give up on getting an 85/86 home/away break. Third, how did you happen to notice the discrepancy? You now have me worried that I might've experienced the same thing and just not noticed it.

I noticed it after realigning my league. At the end of the '08 season we went from a four-division setup to the one big league. After realigning the game strongly suggests regenerating the schedule. So after I did that I went and looked at the schedule report, and it was immediately obvious. Maybe I'll try changing the series lengths to see if that has an effect. Maybe I will PM LGO, since he is the most revered schedule guru I've ever heard of.

Game setup > League Setup > Edit League Schedule > Schedule... button in lower right corner > Report: Evaluation.

If you really want a specific schedule, your best bet is to either create one yourself, have one created for your, or see if there's an existing custom schedule file which fits your requirements.
