Minor Leaguers
In a historical league, if you add minor leagues, are the players in the minors actually minor leaguers from that season or are the major leaguers who just aren't on an active roster? From what I've seen, it looks like they are NOT minor leaguers. The reason I ask is, I was thinking about minor leaguers who were traded before making the majors. I have the game set to import rookies to the team they came up with. Just for example, the ridiculous Larry Anderson for Jeff Bagwell trade. If I am the Red Sox and I do not make this trade, I would not get either player since Bagwell came up to the majors with Houston.
If someone has some advice for me on how to proceed so minor leaguers will come up with the team that drafted them I'd appreciate it. I noticed the 2008 Major League game has minor leaguers on it Another related question - With rookies being automatically assigned to their original team, I don't get the extra draft pick for allowing a free agent to sign with another team. I am trying to be as accurate as possible and I'm not sure what I should be doing differently to combat these two situations. Any advice? |

As for your second issue, check in the Mods section of the forum for two data bases (or roster sets - I don't know the difference) that bring the players in the systems where they played their first MINOR league game. Note that if players were traded or released and re-signed elsewhere prior to their first professional appearance they will NOT appear in the system that drafted them, but this does get you one step closer to what you're looking for. I don't know the names of these roster sets, but you could try a forum search to find them. They have been mentioned in a thread within this month and another last month up here in General Discussions. I'm sorry, but I have no clue regarding the draft pick issue. I do know that Markus has decided that getting the financial and contract management rules (and this one specifically, but there are several others) to exactly match 'real' baseball would require effort that he feels would be better spent in other areas.

I'm new to OOTP so maybe that explains my confusion. I'm using the database that the game came with. Now I'm seeing that many different databases/roster sets can be used. I couldn't find the rosters you were talking about with players coming up with their original team. Could someone reply with a link to it? I assume the ratings etc will be basically the same as what came with the game. Is this correct?

If you want to have the players enter with the team they were drafted by, I think you'd have to draft the players yourself. A little tedious, but, it would work.
Stop by Toodies and pick up a sandwich before you start.

In regards to your last two questions, ask Garlon and Spritze; they would know better than I would.
