Making a better historical game in 2008
Well, guys, what can the guys do to move the historical sim experience forward?
OOTP 2007 is light-years ahead of 2006, and I think there is a desire to leave 2007 in the dust in terms of fun, accuracy, and new functionality for the historical set. What can be done to make this happen? I have less than a dozen suggestions for historical play so far. Let's pipe up, OK? |

1. The ability to use recalc back to 1872.
2. A CM that isn't quite so eager to use players out of position. 3. "Historical usage" as a CM management option. I may have more later. The first two are my big ones.

There are still plenty of things that need major improvements in historicals.
1. Pitcher GB% rating 2. League SB ratios and SB% 3. League Double Play ratios 4. League OF Assists ratios 5. The modeling of player ratings when they move out of recalc (when their historical stats run out) and the default development takes over) 6. Fielding ratings 7. Player import ratings in the non-recalc mode 8. Pitcher Endurance ratings 9. The AI's overvaluing of pitchers in the rookie drafts 10. Player Speed/Stealing ratings |

Go back to 1871 for the settings import when you use the wizard to create historical leagues. Currently it only goes to 1901.

Garlon's suggestions in that thread are outstanding. Other than 19th century support, they would be my highest priority.

An accurate model of independent minors (pre-affiliated) with an option to turn off reserve rosters

Yes, please. If nothing but that gets fixed for historical leagues, I'll be happy. Especially for the deadball era.
