Garlon DB 2008, need a partner
Hey everyone,
Arod23 and I did not release an updated version of our DB this year. In part becaue Arod23 has been extremely busy and also in part because I didn't think it was worth putting in alo of time on it due to the several remaining historical issues that still need resolving in the game. I think we should be able to get those issus resolved for next year's game. I would like to start from scratch on a new DB and I need someone else to help me with some of it. I can do several of the needed edits myself using Excel, but for other things I need someone with some programming/database skills to pitch in. What I'd like to do is park-neutralize the player stats of all seasons using Bill James' 162-game 750-run environment method detailed in his Historical Abstract pgs 740-743. The method uses the quadratic equation. I can work the method and equation on paper no problem, but I really don't know how to go about automating it through programming. With my previous DB's we deleted many cup-of-coffee players, partly because we were designing it for use with OOTP6.5 in which I think that is the right thing to do. We also changed player debut years to their first full season based on their career AB or IP totals. This too was the right thing to do for the best functionality with OOTP6.5. This time around I don't want to change any debut years and only delete non-MLB players - anyone who played in the Union Association/Players League/Federal League who did not go on to have significant playing time in the NL or AL and also WWII replacement players who debuted during 1942-1945, but did not have significant playing time after 1945. Let me know if you think you could work on this project with me. |

I have an Access database I created that already has this built in.
