Starting a Historical League in 1946

I'm planning to start a historical league with the 1946 season. I notice that there are a few dozen players with major league experience prior to 1946 who did not appear again until 1947 or 1948 (and a couple even later). What is the best way to activate them-- to clerically add them in the correct year or to modify their debut dates in the master file so they will be imported automatically? Will changing the debut dates adversely affect any of the developmental algorithms?

You can do any of those things or use the Garlon/Spritze db over in the mods forum that accounts for the war years and other career gaps.

Changing debuts does not seem to change the development model other than age related things which is just as well.

Thanks, Spritze. The DB I'm using is the one that includes MLEs for the minor league seasons of major league players from 1947 to circa 1974 (and some from 1946 as well), which I think was one you developed as well. I like the fact that it allows for deep minor league rosters of real players. In fact my only gripe with my first game with this database was that too many players seemed to be retiring in their early 30s, so this time I'm going to set up an independent Pacific Coast League to see if I can keep more of the older, but marginal, players active.

I plan on releasing a new version of this db that

A) Covers all players who played from 1945 to 1974
B) Fills in gap seasons like the Garlon/Spritze db
C) Adds a few more negro league and Japanese players than the Garlon/Spritze db has.

There will be many fewer gaps to close as Garlon/Spritze only covers major league careers and the other db covers major and minor careers. Almost nobody whose major league career ended in 1945 did not play quite a few more years in the minors.

I have entered all players A-N who played in 1945 so I still have O-Z left. Should take about 4 weeks to finish them. There were 235 players who ended their major league career in 1945. A normal year is about 70. Which is why it will take a while yet.

That sounds great! I look forward to the update. Filling in the post 1945 careers of the players who last appeared in the majors in 1945 will be a nice plus.
