Help with Settings
Goal: To simulate from 1901 and replay history, I want all stats to be modern day.
Result: I did a historical replay. Started in 1901 with all settings to equal modern day. I sim to 1960, and I get very unrealistic stats. League Average is 273. I get a guy who pitched 524 strikeouts in a season. Pitchers who pitch over 300 innings. Every year, do I have to adjust the league equilviances to 2007?. What settings would be optimal for achieving my goal, is there a quickstart?. I want to make it EQUAL for all players from 1901 to 2007. No increase in talent from pitcher to batter |

Did you edit all the strategic settings in game setup with your modern day numbers? The modifiers are the big ticket items.
If you did you also must click the checkboxes to NOT allow the settings to be changed by the game as history progresses. |

Some settings I have
Unchecked- Automatically Adjust League Modifiers after each season Modifiers all set a 1 (Modern day numbers) All that automatically adjusting stuff is unchecked, because I want everything to be equal EDIT: I am pretty sure I just have to adjust the modifier every year, I also unchecked the automate changing of league strategy! I am a newb and this game is very overwhelming (In a very good way) Last edited by jaguar8311 : 06-19-2008 at 05:31 PM. |

There is one other file that must be changed. All the stat lines in it must match the year you are targeting. I am at work right now and the file name has wandered off my brain and moseyed into a mental wastebasket somewhere. I'll look it up when I return home and let you know the name.

The other file is ERAstats.txt in the OOTP Baseball 9\database folder. It is a comma delimited file and each line should be exactly the same except for the first 4 characters which is the year. You can edit this with any program that can read and write CSV files. A spreadsheet would be a good choice.

When I open it with excel, it's not neatly organised at all
Example
What I think that you want me to do is to replace all the modifiers with the 1 I assume
I did edit the modifiers when I made the world, I set it to never change the modifiers and I set them at 1. Maybe hardcoding it in the game is a better solution. Am I on the right track? |

Don't change the modifiers. These numbers are the STATS you are trying to reach. The modifiers will try to get to these numbers automagically without needing any input from yourselves.
To open in Excel goto Data....Import External Data.....Import Data.....choose text files from the dropdown, the Excel import wizard will ask you how the file is delimited, choose comma, choose first row is header... To save it just save as a CSV file and then simply rename the extension to CSV. You can also simply rename the txt file to CSV and Excel will just open it for you correctly. Basically these files are merely CSV files with the extension changed to TXT |

Don't I want to change the modifiers though. If I change the HR to say, 5000
When I play an 14 team league in 1901. There will be 5000HR. I still want expanison, Edit: If I took how many teams there are in the league, divide it by 30(teams in MLB) then multiply it by the 2007 stat I want. I get the stat. Last edited by jaguar8311 : 06-20-2008 at 12:33 PM. |

You will note that most columns are ratios so it should autoadjust to the number of games and teams and what not. For instance note that the empirical numbers are short for strike years but as there are no strikes in the game it automagically adjusts for the full schedule.
Remember also that the initial year of any league has weird stats. It will improve after that. |

Have you ever figured out a good set of totals for an 1871 historical league to keep the first year from having weird stats?

stupid question, but how do I rename it. When I add .txt at the end of it. It does not convert to a notepad file. so i get era_stats.txt that opens by default in excel instead of era_stats that opens in notepad.
Thanks again |

it is easiest if you unhide the file extensions. You are changing the name, not the extension on accident. right click start button, choose explore, choose tools, choose folder options, take the check mark out of the box that says hide extensions for known file types. Then you see the file extion and be able to change it.
