Starting In 1871 - Need Help
Thought I'd give it a try auto-simming an 1871 historical league with the 1-man rotations...things were going okay for a couple of days, then the starters became exhausted and position players began entering games as relievers on a fairly regular basis.
Any suggestions on how to remedy the situation? I think it's great we can go back to 1871 with this version, but even if I wanted to abandon the 1-man rotation, there simply aren't enough real pitchers in the league to go around. I know there is a league starting pitcher endurance setting I can change, but I'm not sure which setting to use, or if that would help at all. Any thoughts? Thanks! |

I use a 40 game schedule that only has games on the weekend. I uploaded it in the Mods/Schedule thread. I also change in league setup strategy tab the 1 man rotation to 2 man rotation as well as player limit to 17. In 1876, I'll expand to 8 teams with 70 games and Wed. & Thurs games.

Jah,
You may also want to lower injuries to very low and fatigue to low. I set rosters at 15 and secondary roster at no more than 18 till at least the first ten years. But i think you have to use minor leagues in order to use the secondary roster. This would help keep teams from just hogging players they dont need as much as another team. You might still have position players pitching here and there. To me thats ok because im sure it happened in real life at times back then. |

In the 1800's there was not as much differentiation between position players and pitchers as in more modern times. They didn't even have freeways or cars. No microwaves and no nukes. The worst thing was almost no movies and the special effects in the ones they had were pretty cheesy. Oh yeah, they also had lots of manure.
In those days pitcher was just a position like any other and most anyone played it on an as necessary basis. It was a lob the ball and let them hit it proposition. Most league games were played on Saturday, so only one per week. The rest of the week had games against amateur town teams in the area. Sundays were best left to drinking or churching, not much in between. |

you might make a copy of the league right before you have the first draft. That way you dont have to start from scratch. especially since 19th century leagues are probably gonna take a lot more testing than modern leagues.

Usually a couple of players would also pitch, and the primary pitcher might play another position (if able!!!) on his day off. There were no 95 MPH fastballs, and the distance to the plate was shorter.
