Combining Cubby-Rolen MLB Data With a Fictional League.

Hi everyone.

Now that the Cubby-Rolen data is out (albeit still rough around the edges) I've actually started to look at what it's possible to do with OOTP2006. One of the first ideas I had (before the game came out) was to create a new, fictional league running parallel to Major League Baseball.

Well, now I have a pretty good approximation of MLB. But, I'm becoming suspicious that there's no way to do what I want to. You can't create new leagues in a universe that has already begun, and the Cubby-Rolen data is released as a saved game.

Is there really no way to run a fictional league alongside a real-world MLB? It is beginning to look that way. Perhaps there are ways of doing this that haven't occurred to me. I'd be most appreciative of any help. If it's impossible to do this, it would really decrease my enjoyment of the game I think.

I'd be interested in knowing the answer to this too.

Aewin and The Great Demo's 20 Step Guide to Importing Rosters

This thread suggests that exporting and importing rosters might hold the answer, although even the OP doesn't seem sure about the export/import process between universes, which would be what is required. It also looks like it might be somewhat difficult for people without much prior experience of messing with .csv files, too. Perhaps there could be a utility to help with this?

At the moment though everything is purely theoretical, what with any tests being rendered impossible by the apparent death of roster imports in the most recent patch.

Progress!

Today I read the thread about the reasons for problems with importing the Rolen-Cubby roster sets. It's the fact that two A-ball players (I believe they're called Lewis McQuistan and Tim Gormley) have '"' entered as their nickname. If you edit that out (in-game), things will import correctly.

So, here's what I did: Created a new universe with the Major American League and a fictional league, released all players from the MAL and then imported. Works great! All players on their correct teams and so on - I don't think releasing all players was necessary in fact.

Of course, the only thing with this is that you'll have to manually set up the MLB and Minor League team names, logos, colours etc for each game you begin, but I guess this can be worked around by doing it once and creating a template. I think that's how templates work...

This is great.
