Stadium Importer

I've been looking into the idea of a stadium importer mod. The easiest way I can see to do that is to have a csv file of the same format as the exported one from the game and add a column saying team name so that the team can be assigned the correct park.

I was thinking of basing it on the Gambo spreadsheet but it doesn't list weather for the parks, and for some reason the weather data is stored against parks and not cities, but as far as I can see all the relevant data that appears in the OOTP export file is also present in Gambo.

I just need to finalise the writing back of teams.dat to complete this task as parks.dat is fairly simple.

I just wanted to check that the Gambo spreadsheet is the main source of this data for dimensions and factors and that there aren't others out there?

I always use Gambo's and it seems to be the best resource.

I may be biased but I know it's the best!

I've put up the first attempt at a ballpark importer at http://www.bourtonville.co.uk/OOTPStadium.zip

Unzip the file and then double click the OOTP Stadium Importer.application to install it.

How this works is as follows:

1. Start the program and exit OOTP
2. Choose your saved league directory by clicking on the ... next to the Saved Game Dir text box and navigating to it.
3. On the first go through only the top button will be enabled as there isn't an import file made at that point. Click on create new format CSV and when the other button has become enabled it has finished the first stage.
4. If you look in your saved league directory you will see a file called parks_output.csv - open this up in Excel or any other spreadsheet and you'll see the main parts of stadium data. Each park will have its teams listed against it as well. Make the changes to the data that you want and save it back as csv with the same name 'parks_output.csv'
5. Click the Import Ballparks button and it will read the file back in and update teams.dat and parks.dat

Points to note

a. It doesn't allow addition or deletion of stadiums.
b. If a team is allocated to more than one stadium, they'll be allocated the last one in the list.
c. If a team is mispelled in the list it won't get allocated its rightful stadium.
d. A ballpark can have up to five teams that play there.
e. A back-up of both teams and parks.dat are created so if it screws up you can delete teams.dat and parks.dat and rename the last backup copy.

I know it's not the same format as Gambo's list but I was trying to find someway of tying up a park to a team as well.

Looking Good! I can just tweak the stadium chart to match up better for the importer...

the only other thing I think it may be missing in setting up the ballpark photos and places. Are you planning on touching on those things?

Yep, I'll add them to the file. I just wanted to make sure the principle worked.

So does this have the changes already done or do we still have to make all the manual changes just using this utility? Since I don't have excel on my home pc I am asking if the ballpark_csv is already set up or not?

No it doesn't. The problem with making up one correct to start with is that it might not match up with the team names that are in your game. A standard ML fictional league will have different nicknames every time you set it up, and unless you go through and manually edit all 212 (I think) team nicknames, a default stadium file won't be much use.

Oh so this is really best used with a fictional ML world not say playing with the 2007 rosters? BTW, what does the game come with as far as stadium dimensions for each team does it have arandomge nerator or is it the same with evry team same ballpark? Just curious.

I've updated the program at the link above. It now allows you to re-import directly the parks.csv that is generated in the import_export directory when you do a CSV data dump.

This means all the fields are changeable and stadiums can be deleted and added at will from that file, but it loses the link between a stadium and a team.

So if you do a standard ML setup and export parks.csv and change Park ID 1 to be Fenway Park, you'll find the Orioles playing there.

My next task is to import the teams csvs and that should enable the two sets to be tied together that way and allow history to be imported.

Even Better! This is going to be awesome when it's finished... still curious as to when you can get to implement the photo file info... once you get the columns set i'll restructure a ballpark chart for it and maybe add in a few more stadiums.
