TeamRater -- Now Available!

I'm pleased to announce my first mod for OOTP 9 -- TeamRater.

In game, there is a power rankings report that ranks teams. But this is based on record and stats... basically how the team is performing.

But there isn't a report that actually gives ratings for teams.

This mod does that.

Simply output your league's .csv files and run the program.

This is mostly for solo leagues, but great for online leagues for the commish. Run this program and post the results on the league website for team bragging rights.

These rankings can be sorted by overall rating, pitching, batting, fielding, bench or bullpen.

The weights of each of these factors can be altered to your liking, as well.

Even save your results to a comma-delimited file for posterity sake.

You could even use this as a trade evaluator. Run the program before the trade to get the team ratings. After the trade, run the program again to see the results.

Screenshots of the program in action below.

Any questions, comments, suggestions, post here!

Pretty slick...what are your formulas for the ratings?

For batting, I used 1/3 contact, 1/3 power and 1/3 eye. Pitching, I used 1/3 stuff, 1/3 movement, 1/3 control. Fielding, I used the position rating of the player's set position.

In the future, I might make these editable if there's a huge outcry for it... (and more than 5 people actually use the mod!).

I actually do something like this manually using spreadsheets before the start of each season to do a "pre-season picks" news story. This would save me a TON of time!

I DLed this and can't get it to work. I open the program and try to open a new league and it keeps saying the folder contains no .csv data when I am looking at the .csv files in the folder. Suggestions?

I can't use it, because it needs .NET 3.5.

I can't install that until I upgrade to XP SP2 (which is more complicated than it sounds...not technically, just...well, it's a long story).

Make sure you're only clicking on the .lg folder, not the import_export folder.

This doesn't work with OOTP 8. The .csv files are different.

Do you have a major league in this universe? It will only work with major leagues (no minors).

Anything else weird in your setup? For instance, the league's nation ID can't be zero. I don't think there's any reason why it would be zero, but that's why I ask about weird setups.

You can't have the .csv files open in excel. Excel hogs the files and won't let other apps use them. You can open them in something like TextPad or Notepad.

If it still doesn't work after all of that, try uninstalling, and download www.mccreadylaw.com/teamraterdebug.zip. This version will create a teamraterlog.txt file on your c:\ when you run the program. Paste the contents of that file here or attach the file.

Do you have .NET 2.0? I don't think I use anything in there that's 3.5 specific. I can just copy and paste all the code into an older editor and recompile.

I am tinkering with this with the real roster set, as seen above.

What is the logic behind the ratings that top 100?

Can you use the team abbreviations instead of the team city and team nickname?

How do I get the minor league affiliates rated?

Are these actual ratings? Can a comparative version for potential be an option?

I really like the idea of this, but I'm not sure about just adding up the three ratings of each. Maybe others more experienced in OOTP can correct me, but to me a pitcher's control should be rated a little heavier than the others and a batter's contact should be weighted a little heavier.

Does anyone agree or am I way out in left field here?

EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure of the proper weightings either, it's just for me the two I mentioned above should have a minimum, IMO. When I'm looking at pitchers, if they don't have a control of at least 10 (1-20) scale, I don't consider them useful, and for hitters the same thing with contact. Then, once they've reached that threshold, perhaps it is logical to weight them evenly. I would love to hear other folks thoughts on this.

The ratings topping 100 is because I'm using raw ratings. I tried to shove them down a bit by multiplying by .8 or something like that, so there weren't a bunch of ratings like 125.

I could make it use the abbreviations, but it would be a code change. Is there a problem with using city and name?

These are actual ratings. I hadn't thought about a potential version. I'll look into that.

At the moment, you can't do minor league affiliates. It would take quite a bit of tinkering, but I could get this to work if it's really, really wanted.

The new version I just uploaded fixes the ratings topping 100 issue by offering an option to rate the teams based on a league average.

You may be right, but even you're not sure if you are . That's why I let all of the individual ratings be of equal weight. You might say contact is more important, but I actually use the eye rating more heavily.

As I stated elsewhere, if there's really an outcry to make those settings modifiable, I'll add that as an option.

New version includes a new rating system, based on the league average.

Also the ability to see all your team's individual ratings.

Fixed some bugs.

And there's a couple of shiny new buttons!

Also just uploaded a .NET 2.0 version. At least, I think it is. Someone try it and let me know.

The abbreviations thing, if it takes more than 5 minutes to do, don't bother. It's not that big a deal.

The potential report would be very, very neat. Almost a must.

I would like to see a minor league report, too, if it is not too hard to do.
