I am missing something here?

I know this is going to sound weird, but is there some kind of motivational feature that I'm just missing out on? Every team that I join I never get past 2 months on because everyone, no matter how good they are, simply stops producing and I get fired. Every team I've managed has ended up last in BA, OPS, Runs, ERA, etc.

I don't get it...I'm playing minor league teams so I don't have to deal with all the league management and financial stuff when I'm just trying to figure out how to play OOTPB, so all I really have to worry about it setting smart lineups and creating a strategy that matches up with my team strengths. I've been doing this. Then my best players hit at the Mendoza line and my supposedly lockdown pitchers post ERAs over 10.

Is there something I'm missing here? Are there any guides that help out a newbie?

There have been a number of threads here that discussed how hard it is to manage and survive in the minor leagues due to the lack of control over your roster and the fact that most players stink down there. In my opinion, you would do better taking over a major league club and delegating most of your responsibilities to your AI managers until you get the hang of OOTP.
