The Baseball Chronicle - A Fictional Player Romp Thru History

The Baseball Chronicle which began as a dynasty covering the years 1871-91 is now ready to go online as a league picking up in 1892 with 21 seasons of history already built in. The league will be a fast-paced thrill ride across baseball history.

GMs (and non-GM followers of the leagues) are encouraged to create their own players (either "ancestors" or simply made-up guys) through this thread on the Dynasty Forum.

Using kq76's recommendations, here are the cogent points in list form:

Full League Name (Initials): The Baseball Chronicle (TBC)
Main URL: The Baseball Chronicle :: Home
Reports URL: BNN Home Page
Boards URL: The Baseball Chronicle :: Home
Commissioner(s) OOTP Forum Username(s): legendsport
Email Address: commish@legendsport.com
OOTP Version: 9
Game Needed: Required
Players: Fictional players in Historical setting
# of Teams: 12 (will expand to 16 in 1901)
Export Deadlines Days And Times: Monday thru Saturday 6am ET
League Time Per Sim: 1/2 month (15 or 16 days per sim)
First Season: 1871 (as dynasty), 1892 (as online league)
Latest Season: 1893
Special Rules & Settings: This is a talent-only league. Coaches are on, scouts are off. We'll attempt to mimic the Reserve Clause era with financials on, no free agency, no rookie draft. The upper tier of Minor League baseball will be simmed and teams will procure players through purchasing them from the minors (as the real teams did) or occasionally thru free agency. The Negro Leagues will also be simmed alongside when we reach 1920. The commissioner will handle the minor league teams, the Negro League teams will likely have human GMs.
Currently Available Teams: No current teams. Baltimore Orioles (AL version - becomes the NY Yankees) is available for the 1901 season.

With the league beginning life as a dynasty (which will continue to be updated in the Dynasty forum), the goal will be to create an immersive experience for the GMs where the players will take on personalities and have backstories as will the managers, owners and coaches. Events will take place outside the OOTP sim itself to flesh out the characters in this ongoing story. In addition, real life events from outside the league (such as the World Wars, integration, etc) will play roles in shaping the direction of TBC.

TBC is an homage not only to great OOTP 6.5 leagues such as Time Warp Baseball and PBRL, but also to baseball history itself. Who will be TBC's "Babe Ruth" or "Ted Williams?" Join in and find out, it's going to be a great ride.

About the TBC Commissioner:
The commish has years of experience running OOTP leagues going back to OOTP 2 the most successful of which was Greatest Generation Baseball which ran for 20 seasons, covering versions 4 thru 6.5 of the sim. Other long-running leagues included the 20th Century Chronicle, a season-per-week league that ran the 1901-2000 seasons and BaTTY which was similar to 20CC but scrambled debut dates. All three were long-running, successful leagues and some of the GMs from those leagues (as well as some TWB & PBRL vets) are signed on for TBC.

The Cardinals are taken. Baltimore and Washington remain available. If you take one of those two teams you will also be able to reserve one of the open AL teams to switch to for the 1901 season.

Just a little bump - Baltimore & Washington remain open. The available AL Teams, which both the Balt & Wash GMs will be able to switch into are: Indians, Tigers, A's & Senators.

I'm stunned people aren't jumping on this league if they like historical leagues. We're using fictional players, but the rest is gonna be as close to reality as possible. Joe's done a tremendous job getting this league ready and is a great commish. He really knows what he's doing.

I'll sign up

Well, if Frank recommends it, it must be good. I would have really liked to get in as the Cardinals, but the Orioles look like a fun team. I will take them instead.

There's a lull in league signups right now. It'll pick back up when the baseball playoffs start.

Looks like we might be full. I have two guys both wanting the Orioles, but I'm hoping one of them will settle for Washington. It's only for the first eight seasons after all, then they'll get to build a new team.

Once I have it locked down as to which AL teams they'll move to after the 1900 NL contraction, I will post the last couple of available AL teams.

OK, the NL 1892-99 is full. The two open AL teams for the 1901 expansion are Cleveland and Philadelphia if anyone wants to reserve those for when we get there.

We've had a couple GMs leave - Cincinnati and Louisville are both available. In addition, anyone taking Louisville will get their choice of the remaining AL teams available for when we reach 1901. Those teams are Cleveland and Baltimore (which becomes the NY Yankees).

I'd like to take on Louisville, because I want to use the DH (in about 5 years)

BTW, I tried to register on the website, but every username I chose was rejected.

I've sent you a PM about Louisville. The forum is blocking signups because too many spammers were signing up so I blocked all new usernames. If anyone wants to sign up for the forum, they can PM me their username, email address and password here and I will set up your account myself. Then you can go in and change your password, finish setting up your info, etc.

TBC has two openings available: the Phillies and Reds. One is very good (tied for first-place in fact) while the other is very bad (mainly due to the previous owner taking a powder on us).

The league, which started as a solo-dynasty in 1871 to build up some history, went online in 1892 and is now about to wrap up 1895. There are a couple of AL teams available as well, for the AL launch in 1901 (still a couple months away, but you can reserve a spot now if you wish).

We've got a few wrinkles that separate us from other leagues, like trying to model the reserve clause era, a draft that isn't *exactly* a draft and more. Check out the website for more details.
