Game File Unstable Causing Player Links to Break Down
I am one of two commissioners in a 12-player online league using OOTP 9. We tend to alternate running sims. Both of us are using XP machines to run the league. The other owners run a variety of Vista, XP, and Mac machines.
We have a steadily increasing problem in the league that is now threatening to end it. Occasionally, after a sim is run and the league file uploaded to the server we use, a team owner will download the update and after it is processed, find that the rosters in the league are completely screwed up. Instead of the players they expect to find on their roster, it's random other players from the league. The links in the news stories no longer go to the correct players. The team records, lists of free agents, personnel, are all fine. But the player map, for lack of a better word, is completely screwed up. It used to be that we could fix the problem by deleting the erroneous league file, going back to an old clean version, and downloading the update again. This was a minor annoyance, but no big deal. Then, that stopped working. Sometimes, the error wouldn't clear right away. When the old clean league folder was reinstalled, the game would be fine, but downloading the update would cause the same error. But, after another sim or two was run, the error would clear. So, this was more annoying, but not a huge problem. Then, that stopped working. Four owners, including both commissioners, have only been able to fix the problem by completely deleting and reinstalling the game. The errors have not been consistent among the operating systems of the owners having the error, which commissioner runs the sim, etc. It's driving us nuts. Now, we've reached a point where we can't run a sim without multiple people having errors. In the most recent case, four owners' machines (including me) couldn't process a league update run by the other commissioner but one owner could. When I re-ran the sim, the other commissioner had the error. Just to throw in more chaos, the vast majority of the owners, including both commissioners, participate in multiple OOTP 9 leagues and this league is the only league to have the issue. We're fairly desperate and this is threatening to destroy a great league. We think it must be some instability within the league files, but we can't figure out which one is at fault. Any ideas? |
